About me and my therapy practice
Embarking on a therapeutic journey requires trust, openness, and a genuine connection. As a dedicated therapist, my primary goal is to create a sanctuary for you – a space where you feel genuinely heard, valued, and understood. Rooted in the person-centred philosophy, I firmly believe that every individual brings a unique tapestry of experiences, emotions, and perspectives to the therapy room. It's this uniqueness that I cherish and seek to understand in our sessions.
My integrative approach is not a one-size-fits-all method. Instead, it's a dynamic blend of various therapeutic modalities, ensuring our sessions are tailored to resonate with your specific needs, aspirations, and goals. By weaving together elements from person-centred, cognitive-behavioural, and psychodynamic therapies, I can offer a holistic approach that addresses both the mind and the heart.
Building a genuine and trusting therapeutic relationship is paramount. In our sessions, I strive to be more than just a passive listener. I engage actively, reflecting on your experiences and offering insights without imposing my own interpretations. This mutual respect and understanding ensure that our journey progresses at a pace that feels comfortable and right for you.
Beyond our immediate sessions, my commitment to your well-being is unwavering. I consistently engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD), immersing myself in the latest research, techniques, and methodologies in the ever-evolving landscape of mental health. This dedication ensures that I bring the most current and effective strategies to our sessions.
Whether you're navigating the turbulent waters of anxiety, the shadows of depression, significant life transitions, or any other challenges, know that you're not alone. I'm here, ready to walk alongside you, offering guidance, support, and the tools you need to forge a path towards healing, growth, and a more fulfilling life.
Practice description
When you step into my practice, you're entering a space designed with your well-being in mind. It's a haven where exploration, reflection, and growth are nurtured. My practice is more than just a room; it's an environment where you can feel at ease, knowing that your journey towards healing and self-discovery is respected and valued.
Every individual's therapeutic journey is unique, and I honour that individuality. From our very first interaction, you'll find that my approach is tailored to you. I take the time to understand not just the challenges you're facing but also your aspirations, dreams, and the life you envision for yourself. This understanding allows me to align our sessions with your personal goals, ensuring that our time together is both meaningful and productive.
In our sessions, you can expect a blend of deep listening, insightful reflections, and practical tools. While I draw from a rich tapestry of therapeutic techniques, I always prioritise what feels right for you. Whether it's exploring past experiences, challenging negative thought patterns, or building resilience for the future, our work will be a collaborative effort.
For those new to therapy, it's natural to have questions or feel uncertain. I'm here to guide you, answering any queries and addressing any concerns you might have. My aim is to make the therapeutic process transparent, ensuring you feel informed and empowered at every step.
Beyond our sessions, I'm committed to providing resources and support. Whether it's recommended readings, exercises, or techniques to practice at home, I ensure you have the tools to continue your growth outside our meetings.
Choosing to seek therapy is a courageous step, and I'm honoured to be part of your journey. In my practice, you'll find a partner dedicated to supporting you, championing your growth, and celebrating your successes, no matter how big or small.
My first session
Your first session with me is an important step in your therapeutic journey. It is a time for us to get to know each other and for you to decide if you feel comfortable working with me. Here’s what you can expect:
Initial Consultation:
Before we begin regular therapy sessions, I offer a free 20-minute phone or Zoom consultation. This is an opportunity for us to discuss your needs, expectations, and any questions you may have. It’s also a chance for me to explain how I work and what you can expect from therapy.
Assessment and Introduction:
In our first official session, we will go through a gentle assessment. This involves discussing what has brought you to therapy, your goals for our work together, and any relevant history. This is not a ‘test’ – it’s a way for me to understand your perspective and needs more deeply.
Therapeutic Contract:
We will review and agree on a therapeutic contract. This document outlines the boundaries and practicalities of our work, such as confidentiality, session frequency, and fees.
Getting to Know You:
The first session is also a space for you to start sharing your story at your own pace. There is no pressure to disclose anything you are not comfortable with – this is your time, and we will go at a pace that feels right for you.
What to Bring:
You don't need to bring anything specific, but some clients find it helpful to jot down a few notes or questions beforehand.
Next Steps:
At the end of the first session, we will discuss the next steps. If you decide to continue, we will schedule our next appointment. If you decide that we are not a good fit, that is completely okay – I can provide referrals to other professionals.
I strive to make the first session a welcoming and non-intimidating experience. It is a foundational step towards building our therapeutic relationship and starting your path towards healing and growth.
