About me and my therapy practice

Kindness is the word which best describes my approach to counselling, and is the fundamental guiding principle of my practice. I find that many of us believe it is important to be kind, considerate and understanding to others, and yet, we can often feel undeserving of kindness for ourselves. And what does it mean to treat ourselves with kindness? This was a question that confused and troubled me for many years.

Today, I am aware that the kindest thing I can ever do for myself is not to be alone with the thoughts and feelings that cause me to experience stress and anxiety. It takes a lot of energy to hold on to the mental and emotional baggage we tend to carry around with us.  Sometimes it becomes too much, our system gets overloaded that we find it difficult to function in the world. We lead a very limited life, stuck in feelings of depression, anxiety and exhaustion.

By sharing our distress with a compassionate human being, we give our minds and bodies the deep rest they need, because we are not burning up energy suppressing our emotions. It is not always easy to open up about ourselves, especially in a world which can seem so inhospitable. Being vulnerable takes courage, and you have already taken the first step along this path by setting an intention to look for a counsellor. I am so pleased you have begun your journey.

Practice description

In my practice, I bring the empathy of one who has navigated significant trauma in her own life. Whilst my training shows me how to be a counsellor, my greatest learning has been delivered by life itself. I describe the openness, compassion and warmth shown to me by my own counsellor as ‘The golden rays of Kindness’, because the light of possibility was revealed to me gently and steadily when I felt as though I lived in perpetual darkness. This is what I offer to you now.

In my practice, I bring the empathy of one who has navigated significant trauma in her own life. My first session

The first session is slightly different, in that I will ask you a number of questions about your background : family, relationships, work, education etc. Once this initial assessment is complete, the sessions are then free and open for us to travel in whatever direction our work together leads us.
