About me and my therapy practice
Hello! I'm Nick, a down-to-earth, and experienced counsellor offering warm, confidential, and non-judgemental therapeutic support.
Although I hold a degree in Psychology and have long been interested in personal development, I came to counselling later in life after facing my own life challenges and experiencing therapy as a client.
I am professionally trained as an Integrative Counsellor in various theoretical backgrounds. This allows me to tailor my approach to your unique needs, whether that involves us exploring the impact of early childhood and family relationships, addressing negative thought patterns, or tackling existential concerns.
Over the years, I have worked with bereavement, addiction, and men's mental health charities, running both therapy groups and one-to-one sessions. This diverse experience has taught me that effective counselling can profoundly change lives. My role is to be alongside my clients, assisting them in untangling and making sense of their thoughts and emotions, and enabling them to define their own path to personal growth. I firmly believe that everyone has the intrinsic ability to understand and find solutions to life's challenges, even when it doesn't always feel that way.
Practice description
Whether online or in-person, we will work together to identify your goals and what you want to achieve from our sessions. We will explore what is happening for you at the moment and how you’re making sense of it, potentially uncovering underlying patterns and processes that may be contributing to your current situation.
Through compassionate listening and reflection, we’ll foster a deeper understanding and acceptance of yourself, empowering you to make choices that are true to you.
Above all, I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship. How we 'fit' as two people working together is crucial. When you feel ready, we can arrange an initial session to see how we might work together.
My first session
I understand how daunting it can be to search for a suitable counsellor, which is why I offer a free, no-obligation, 20-minute consultation. This session gives us a chance to introduce ourselves and get a sense of how we might work together.
There will be no forms or questionnaires—just an open conversation to explore your needs and aims and understand how I can support you. You may have questions about the therapeutic process or about me, and this is your opportunity to ask them without any commitment. We won't rush into deep topics right away; it's important to first develop a strong therapeutic relationship so that you feel comfortable and ready to explore things in greater depth over time.
It's important to consider other counsellors too, so you do not need to decide at this stage. If and when you choose to proceed, I will guide you through any necessary administrative steps before our first full session.
