About me and my therapy practice
I specialise in online therapy. Having worked and trained online during and after lockdown, I developed a very effective way of meeting which allows the connection of face-to-face in building trust and connection, with added convenience for my clients - who don't have to worry about travel time and costs.
I strive to work in flexible, client friendly ways, meeting on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. I offer short term and long term counselling to individuals who are experiencing emotional distress that can be triggered by life changes, relationship problems, or losses of various kinds. and with clients who experience ongoing depression, stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, anger, or relationship problems.
Feelings, thoughts and anxieties can get in the way of living, and we can struggle to understand how things from the past can impact our mental health.
Life events can trigger emotions that are difficult to understand or express. Sudden trauma, retirement, redundancy, a business failure, a relationship breakdown, bereavement, abuse, bullying and harassment, or struggles with gender and sexual identity. The list is endless and is as individual as us. These can prevent clear thinking and create worries or reactions, which can go on to cause anxiety, shame, confusion, or possible feelings of guilt that are hard to recognise or cope with. They may also cause a reaction of self-destruction, self-harm, eating disorders, drinking, drug use and other issues.
We are a mixture of our past, race, sex, gender, relationships, and family history. As individuals, we may question, why do I do that? Why does that affect me? Why does that hurt? Why am I so scared? Why did they do that? Making sense of it all will help us get to a place where we can begin to look forward.
Practice description
I work with individuals and couples and I prioritise building a therapeutic relationship, where I assist clients in their efforts to make sense of their feelings and experiences.
Clients are individual and each have their own difficulties, so by being a trained integrative counsellor, I can bring different counselling techniques together to create an individual tailored therapy for each client. By working in a safe space and in a non-judgemental way, we can explore feelings and gain an understanding that allows change to be possible.
My client-focused approach is based on the principles of the core conditions, Empathy, Congruence, and unconditional positive regard. I work with clients to address issues and to challenge thoughts and behaviour to move forward.
My first session
The first step to towards getting therapy can be daunting, but rewarding. To make this easy, I offer a complimentary 30-minute initial session to establish we feel comfortable working together.
This allows a brief introduction to why you are seeking therapy and what you would like to achieve. We can agree the boundaries and conditions of our work, and this allows time to understand the logistics of the sessions and, if necessary, a quick phone call to overcome any difficulties in setting up the video link.
