About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative person-centred counsellor who has been working in mental health since 2001 with adults. I adapt my various therapeutic skills to address issues of anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, addiction, low self-esteem or confidence, fear, bereavement and loss, phobia, negative coping mechanisms, insomnia, disordered eating and stress amongst others.
I have chosen to specialise in relationship therapy, which includes, but is not limited to, couples counselling. I also provide support with issues related to ADHD and techniques around parenting challenges.
Over the years I have trained in various therapeutic modalities including psychodynamic, person-centred, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Family Constellations, Transactional Analysis, Attachment narrative therapy, compassion-based mindfulness, and clinical hypnotherapy. I am able to adapt flexibly to each client's needs providing a truly personalised therapeutic experience.
Practice description
I place great importance in ensuring that clients feel seen, heard and understood with empathy and kindness in a therapeutic relationship which acknowledges that the client is the expert of their own lives and of how they relate to those experiences.
I am able to provide counselling appointments in person, over the phone, or online. These are all safe and fully confidential environments adhering to the professional and ethical policies delineated by the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy, and the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society, of which I am an accredited member.
It is absolutely understandable to feel uncertain or even nervous when, having decided to seek professional assistance, one then has to choose a counsellor from the many available. It is important to make sure that you feel that you will get on with the counsellor you choose. It is that relationship of trust and understanding between client and therapist that will make all the difference.
My first session
I offer a free introductory chat before confirming a counselling appointment. This allows the client to see if they feel that I am the right person to assist them through their difficulties, to make certain that it is something I am fully equipped to help with and to ease the nerves before that first counselling appointment. Nothing is expected of the client. They simply need to bring themselves.
