About me and my therapy practice

You may have experienced something quite difficult or perhaps you are suffering from anxiety or low mood, relationships might not be going so well, or you feel stressed and overwhelmed. In therapy we can explore how these issues are showing up and discover what you need to move forward. We can work together to make sense of your situation and feelings. I will listen exquisitely, gently challenge your beliefs and encourage fresh perspectives. Through small shifts you may find an alternative way. This approach builds on the momentum that brought you to therapy in the first place.

As an integrative therapist, working mainly with a Gestalt and Psychodynamic approach, I am led by you and work collaboratively with you to explore your difficulty. I offer talking therapy, psychological education, and the option for Gestalt creative interventions such as working with images/postcards, figurines or the empty chair technique.

I believe that past events do impact us in the present but we don't need to go digging around looking for them as such. If something is impacting you it will show up in your day to day life in relationships, memories, thoughts and wellbeing. So we will focus on these present day occurrences, in the here and now. We will work to bring greater awareness to your emotions, befriending them and finding out about what is behind them. Through sharing this space you may find that what was overwhelming becomes more manageable and carries less weight.

Practice description

I offer weekly sessions which are 50 minutes long.

Short term (6 to 12 weeks)

Therapy can be short term if you have a specific issue you would like to focus on.

Long term therapy (open ended)

Long term therapy is suitable for more complex issues and for those who have been impacted by negative childhood experiences.

My first session

It's important you find a therapist you feel comfortable with. I will strive to offer you a genuine, respectful, non judgemental and compassionate relationship that will allow for therapeutic work to take place. If you would like to meet for an initial consultation please get in touch.

During your first session we will focus on what brought you to therapy and I will ask questions to build a picture of your situation and assess your needs and goals for therapy. We will agree when, how and for how long we will meet during this first session.

If it turns out that you need a different therapist or therapy with a different skill-set I would be happy to make a suitable referral.

Please contact me to arrange a brief consultation: clareobrientherapy@outlook.com
