About me and my therapy practice
I'm Katy, I'm an Integrative Therapist which means that rather than specialising in one particular mode of therapy I have some knowledge of various psychotherapeutic approaches to counselling, this allows me to tailor the type of therapy to the client.
I am person-centred in my work meaning I like to get to know my clients, what is important to them and honour that in our work together.
Sometimes clients ask "what should I do?" it is not my place to tell clients that, what is right for me and right for them are different and it certainly isn't me that must live with the consequences. I can however help to facilitate a space of exploration so that you can decide what might be right for you to do, so you can gain greater clarity about your choices.
Practice description
I believe in the importance of challenging unhelpful thinking habits and the importance of consciously choosing alternative ways of thinking and being. I encourage self-introspection openness and non-judgement in our work together to enable therapeutic movement to happen.
For clients who are analytical about why we are the way we are, I am happy to explore this and provide knowledge that might be useful in you gaining a greater understanding about what we know affects human behaviour.
For clients who have endured loss, I believe in the importance of expressing grief in whatever way is comfortable for the client, loss is the most difficult thing we have to go through and therefore there simply is no right and wrong way to experience loss. I can offer a space of trust and safety so we can work on learning to be with the loss.
I can teach regulation techniques, conflict management tools and much more, I am frequently attending training as is required by the BACP to improve my competence this helps me expand on the tools available to help.
My first session
The first session will be a full counselling session, prior to this I will require a counselling contract to be signed and I will offer a free 15 minute introduction to that we can sign off the formalities and complete an assessment before commencing our work together.
