Availability
As of May (2023) I currently have some availability to see new clients face to face and online.
Location used to be important, however this is not a problem now we can jump on Zoom! Some client's enjoy being in the comfort of their own surroundings whilst others do not feel they have enough privacy. I have two beautiful locations in Kent and London where I work from, I'd be very happy to meet you in person at either.
I can be flexible to fit in with your schedule, whither you have time in your day, lunch hour or after work, in the evenings or maybe even a day over the weekend - I am sure we can work something out.
Some clients often prefer a mix of both face to face and online - whatever you prefer - it has to suit your needs!
Please get in touch. I provide a free consultation call before committing to an actual appointment. The consultation typically lasts around 15 minutes where you can share a bit about your background, the specific issues you're struggling with, and what your goals are with therapy. You are welcome to ask me questions regarding how I work and I will be honest with you if I feel you are experiencing issues outside my area of expertise - I can possibly help with referrals in this case. Above all, consider your gut feeling to see if it feels right, I want you to feel comfortable.
Please contact me on the above phone number (07850922214) or contact me via here or on my website. I aim to get back to you within 24hrs.
About me and my therapy practice
Opening up to someone about intimate details of your life can feel daunting. It's not always easy - but it can be life changing.
My name is Alison, but please call me Ali!.
I gained a Certificate of Achievement with First Class Honours in Counselling. I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Addiction Psychology and Counselling and I am currently an Advanced Practitioner and Accredited Member of Addiction Professionals (ADAP) and a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
As much as accreditation and qualifications are great and all that, this tells you little about me and how I might be able to help! Research shows the key to success in therapy is the secure relationship you form with your therapist, and I wholeheartedly agree. A strong connection will help you overcome the challenges you face in the present and to heal from the painful events of the past.
Many people consider therapy when they are in a panic or crisis, perhaps others have suggested it might be a good idea, perhaps you don't agree! Maybe you have trouble expressing yourself, you're feeling overwhelmed, lack confidence or the energy to figure out the next step?
I'm not easily shocked and I won't judge you. As someone who knows how it feels to be on both sides of the therapeutic relationship, I understand the importance of being with a therapist who is professional, experienced, authentic and kind.
To describe me best - I am a therapist who is empathic but challenging when need be, I am also open minded and knowledgeable in my field of work. Above all, I am human, and I know what it feels like to mess up, feel overwhelmed and seek help.
Practice description
There are so many 'styles' of therapy. I have found during my career, a certain treatment might help one person but not another. Therefore it is important for me to keep an open mind which approach(s) would be more suitable for you, whether that might be Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or Mindfulness- Based Stress Reduction. Working with various approaches, allows flexibility to explore what helps support the person and their needs.
You can ask me questions to help you decide whether you think I am a the right person to help you. These might include what type of therapy I practice? What you can expect to happen in our sessions? How long we might expect to work together? And anything else you feel might help you reach a decision.
I have specialised training in Substance Misuse and Behavioral Addictions. I have worked with many people of varying ages who want to explore their relationship with alcohol and/or other drugs. Some people want to cut back but are finding it difficult, others are looking to give up their current lifestyle in search of a healthier, more calm way of living. I have many evidence based strategies which I know have worked in the past for other clients and I also work with colleagues who can help with a medically assisted detox if need be.
Please take your time, have a look at my website as it has a lot more information on there; https://www.monkeymindtherapy.com/
My first session
What will therapy feel like?!
This is a great question I am often asked! Its absolutely normal to experience nerves, anxiety, shame, or even guilt about starting therapy. It takes huge courage to make the decision to dig deep into your thoughts and feelings, especially if this is something you don't normally do. Looking inwardly is often something as humans we avoid as much a possible.
The first session is a chance to see how you feel being with me and how we intend working together. We will talk about what brings you to therapy and what you'd like to get out of it. There may be some forms to fill out and of course, I will explore (at your pace) the challenges you may be experiencing and how we can improve your emotional well-being.
During the course of our session we will come up with an initial treatment plan. Not only will this give our sessions structure we will know therapy is complete when your goals and objectives have been met. Therapy can be expensive and I want you to get your money's worth during our time together, no matter how long or short a time this may be!
By the end of the first session we will have a clearer picture of how best to move forward, this is the exciting bit!
You may want to go away and think whether you want to continue, it can often feel a big deal! Alternatively, we can go onto discuss the frequency of our sessions and how I can be of the best possible help to you today.
I really hope to meet you! Above all, I really hope to help. Thanks for reading my profile.
