About me and my therapy practice

I offer weekly psychotherapy and counselling sessions both online and in person at my private practice on Wimpole Street, ten minutes’ walk from Oxford Circus tube.

Whatever the reason you choose to come to therapy, I offer a warm, relational approach in a space of absolute privacy.

As an existential therapist, I work from your experience, rather than through any one predefined framework. We look at your values, your relationships, your broader world, and your inherited ideas and ways of being.

The stories we tell ourselves about our lives define us. They can both empower and trap us. I offer a place to explore the narratives we live within - both those we create ourselves, and those which are created for us by others and the world.

Practice description

My practice is LGBTQ+ friendly, sex-positive and kink-aware. I am interested in supporting those in alternative lifestyles, as well as those experiencing sexual difficulties. I also hold a particular interest in working with bereavement and loss.

I have clinical experience both within the NHS and within low cost community organisations. I hold a Masters in Existential Psychotherapy from Regent’s University, London, and a Certificate of Higher Education in Psychodynamic Counselling from Birkbeck University. My first degree was a BA in English with First Class Honours from Cambridge University. I am a member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) in advanced clinical training. I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and a member of the Society for Existential Analysis. I adhere fully to both the BACP and UKCP ethical codes, to which I am bound by membership.

Emily Howes Therapy is registered with the IPO, and is fully GDPR compliant.
