About me and my therapy practice
Life can sometimes be tough and we all struggle from time to time. I know how challenging that can be and the courage it takes to reach out for help.
Whatever has brought you here, therapy provides a safe and confidential space where, together, we can explore your thoughts and feelings, free from judgement, so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and of others.
Therapy can be a useful pause in your week, a breathing space where you might find some relief, discover ways of coping, and find a way forward.
I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist based in central Halifax. I have a private, comfortable and accessible room with easy parking and transport links.
I work with adults, either short-term or long-term depending on your preference.
I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and observe its ethical code of conduct.
Practice description
Ups and downs are part of life but things don’t have to stay the way they are and you don’t have to go through it alone.
It is my aim to be a compassionate companion, working collaboratively alongside you at your pace to help you make sense of the challenges that you are experiencing.
I am a Relational therapist. I believe that relationships are a fundamental part of life and that how we relate to ourselves, to others and the world around us is key to our mental wellbeing.
I am also an Integrative therapist. We are all unique individuals with different needs so I will take the time to get to know you and collaborate with you to find a way of working together that is helpful to you.
My approach is non-directive, meaning I won’t give you advice or tell you what to do but will support you as we explore the choices you have, empowering you to make your own decisions and move forward in a direction that is right for you; towards a more content and enjoyable life.
My first session
Finding a therapist that is right for you is very important and can feel like a daunting task, so it is my intention to try to make the process as simple as possible.
I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation to give you the opportunity to briefly share what has brought you to therapy and to ask any questions you may have.
It is an opportunity for us to say hello and decide if we would like to meet. We might arrange a face to face session there and then, or we might take some time to think it over.
If we decide to meet, our first session will give us the opportunity to see how it feels to sit and talk in person. I will gather some background information to try and get a better sense of what has brought you here, what your expectations or goals might be and I can answer any questions you might have.
By the end of this session we will hopefully have a better sense of whether we would like to work together. Moving on from there, we would continue at a pace that is comfortable for you, meeting once a week for 50-minutes.
