About me and my therapy practice
As an integrative psychotherapist I work with a variety of theoretical approaches. I am an Arts Therapist, registered with HCPC.
Adapting to You
I adapt my approach to suit the individual and will work in harmony with your needs. The advantage of an integrative approach, which uses more than one body of theory, is that it allows me to be more flexible in meeting your needs and understanding how you want therapy to proceed. I prefer not to direct and to let you take the lead but can also provide a helpful structure and review process as and when you need it. I am interested in your thoughts and feelings and want to understand your world. I do not give advice on how to live your life because I believe the answers are all in you.
People who come to therapy are often experiencing anxiety, depression, anger or difficult feelings that are simply overwhelming. People often need help with relationship issues or are struggling to relate to people. Stress at work frequently leads us to ask for help. I also work with people who have suffered loss & grief or who are coming to terms with trauma. Trauma from our past often impacts our lives in the present, compromising our full potential and prevents us from moving forward. Therapy can reveal and strengthen our authentic self.
I support people from the LGBTQIA+ community and have worked as a psychotherapist/ counsellor in a registered charity for gay, trans and non-binary people bringing issues relating to their sexuality, gender identity, relationship status and sexual health.
Therapy cannot change the past but it can enable us to move forward with increased resilience, make us more aware of what we need from life and can provide us with a solid foundation for lasting change.
Practice description
Sessions last 50mins and are typically weekly. We will agree a convenient day and time that then becomes your regular appointment. Therapy can continue with an agreed number of sessions or can progress open-ended.
Fees are payable by cash or bank transfer and settled before the session begins. Payments need to be up to date for therapy sessions to continue. If you are experiencing financial difficulties please discuss with me before hand.
Reviews
Reviews allow the client to see more clearly what is happening in the therapy and provide opportunity for mutual feedback. A review can enable the client to evaluate if there have been any changes since the therapy began, and can also illustrate the main themes they are bringing to therapy. The therapy is normally reviewed midway through the agreed contract, however reviews can be provided more frequently if helpful for the client.
