About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Maria and I have over 30 years’ experience working with mental health and neurodiversity, this includes 10 years of working with trauma. My lived experience means I know how facing our issues may be challenging; it often takes courage, but it can also be incredibly rewarding.
I primarily (but not exclusively) work with clients who are experiencing Trauma (past or present), Anxiety, Grief, Relationship problems, Work problems and those that are Neurodivergent (both diagnosed and self-diagnosed).
All of these can lead to unsettled feelings such as stress, anxiety, isolation, anger, depression and suicidal thoughts (among others). I will support you through this challenging time in your life so you can find some balance, peace and get to a healthier, more accepting and content way of feeling and being, whatever that may look like for you.
Sometimes my clients find it difficult to speak to family and friends about what worries or saddens them, this can lead to feelings of loneliness, isolation and often makes them feel like they’re not the person they should be/or that others think they should be, they can also feel they’re not living up to their own or others’ expectations. Perhaps you’re worried about burdening others with the thoughts and feelings you carry around within you, and the weight of this is getting too much for you to contain.
We often can be reluctant to spend time and money on ourselves, but I know from my own lived experience of loss, trauma and the many other challenges that I’ve lived through - that by investing in our own mental health and wellbeing we not only feel happier, calmer, more content and accepting of ourselves, but we’re also investing in the relationships and people around us, as we can better connect with people when we are more settled within ourselves.
Practice description
I have many hours experience working with clients who have suffered from various mental health concerns and issues such as those that are described above.
I work in a person centred way, and I also have training to be able to work Psychodynamically, Cognitively and Somatically which means I’ll work in a bespoke way that’s tailored to you and your needs. In addition to this I have training in counselling children which helps me to work creatively with young people, as well as adults who may be struggling to put thoughts and feelings into words.
My own lived experiences drives my passion for helping people work through their difficult current, or past life experiences and I know how hard it can be to trust and reach out for help.
So I understand how facing our issues may be challenging; often taking courage, but I also know how incredibly rewarding it can be to feel free from whatever is troubling you. I can’t fix things for you, but I will offer a trusting, safe relationship, where we can explore and address the reasons that have bought you to counselling together. Whatever is bringing you to seek help, I will always show you compassion and honesty in a non judgmental space.
I’m trained in Breath Work and the Emotional Freedom Technique, which are great for calming anxiety and internal stabilisation, I also have training techniques for processing traumatic events, so we can look at traumatic or triggering events therapeutically in the most appropriate way for you.
Finding the right counsellor can be hard and so as well as a free 10 minute telephone consultation I also offer an introductory session, which is slightly shorter of 40 minutes for £15 so we can get to know each other a little, giving us both the opportunity to see if we're a good fit for the issues that have lead you to seek help.
Video sessions are charged at £10 less than the full 50 minute price.
My first session
I work in person from a dedicated therapy room in Maidstone, the rooms are accessible for everyone and we will meet in the same room each week. When you arrive at the center, there will be someone at reception to greet you and a reception area to wait in.
I also offer virtual sessions from a selection of media platforms for you to choose from.
When you make contact I will arrange with you a convenient time to have a free 10 minute telephone consultation, following this you will be offered a 40 minute session for £15 so we can get to know each other a little. If you decide to book further sessions, which will be for the full time and price, I will send out some information for you to complete and return to me prior to our first full session.
