About me and my therapy practice
Whatever may be troubling you, I am here to support you. Maybe life feels more difficult than usual or you are feeling stuck in some way and you are not sure why.
I am experienced in supporting adults with a range of emotional difficulties including: anxiety, depression, PTSD, bereavement, low self-esteem, body image, relationship and family issues as well as major life transitions.
My focus is on creating a warm, non-judgemental and supportive space, where I can be alongside you, helping you reflect on your current situation.
While we can not change painful past experiences, we can work together to better understand how we are experiencing the present. The process of being listened to, heard and understood can bring great relief to emotional distress. We can then navigate and make sense of complex feelings together, helping you identify ways to make positive changes to your life.
Before my career as a psychotherapist, I worked as a lawyer. As such, I am aware of the personal and professional pressures that individuals can face in our modern day working life.
I have experience of living in different countries and of adapting to different cultures and languages. I believe that my own lived experience and diverse heritage can help inform my therapeutic work, for example, in terms of cultural identity.
Practice description
I have previously worked as a psychotherapist within an NHS service, working with individuals on a range of difficulties.
I have experience of counselling medical professionals.
I am accredited by the UKCP and am a registered member of the BACP (MBACP). I abide by the code of ethics of these professional bodies, including confidentiality.
Qualifications/Training
I have completed a 5 year postgraduate clinical and academic training in psychotherapy and counselling:
PGCIP in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling, Regent's University, London
M.A. in Psychotherapy & Counselling (with Distinction), Regent's University, London
Foundation Certificate in Psychotherapy and Counselling, Regent's University, London
I follow the BACP's Professional Code of Ethics.
My first session
I am used to guiding people through the initial steps of counselling and I offer a free initial 15 minute phone call for us to discuss your situation and for you to ask any questions that you might have.
We may then decide to proceed with an initial 50 minute session (charged at a standard rate), where we can start to develop an assessment of what is going on for you and how we might work together. The therapeutic relationship is central to therapy, so it also gives us a chance to see if we are a good fit. There is no obligation to proceed.
