About me and my therapy practice

I am a warm and supportive Integrative Counsellor and registered EMDR therapist, offering in person therapy in Exeter or remotely nationally via video call.

Psychotherapy and Counselling is designed to offer you empathy and mutual understanding of challenges facilitated by a trusting and safe therapeutic relationship.

This relationship is one of confidence, and compassion, and puts your needs at the heart of the work and seeks to provide you with the tools to live in a more fulfilling way.

You may have suffered a bereavement, experiencing trauma, or you may want to work on a something specific, such as low self esteem, relational difficulties such as estrangement or wanting to explore your own emotions in a safe way. You may be feeling lost, lonely or struggling to understand how the past has impacted you in the present- I offer a space to explore safely and non judgmentally. This isn't definitive, you're welcome to explore emotions that arise for you, as they happen and for this to be accepted. I offer long term work, which focussing on meeting your needs through the relationship, and supporting you to grow to learnt to meet those needs in your life too.

Therapy can be transformative in healing- processing difficulties that may have happened to you in the past, by gaining that impartial support to resource you in the present.

I understand the vulnerability that presents itself when engaging in therapy, and I understand how it is to be a client.

Because of this, my aim is to create the safest, personalised space for difficulties to be explored in, collaboratively.

I work with adults 18+, using Integrative therapy, this means we can work together and tailor-make your support using different therapeutic approaches.

Practice description

I have worked as a therapist for local NHS services and as a NHS staff Counsellor.

What is Integrative therapy?

This means blending approaches.

You might want to explore the past, and look at what has led you to this point in your life, to gain a deeper understanding of your experience, assess patterns and understand your current autonomy. This is called working Psychodynamically. This approach may be open ended and be explorative and inquisitive in nature. Difficult events can be processed with the support of the therapeutic alliance.

You may want to move forward in the now and stay with the present and understand how you think and behave has impacts on your emotions which can be helpful in creating change. This approach might be called solution focussed, wanting to achieve a desired goal. CBT is useful for this type of difficulty. I am trained to work with anxiety, panic, depression or low mood, OCD, phobia's and agoraphobia.

You may have suffered a trauma, sometimes this can be what is known as a 'single event' trauma, or can be more complex such as difficult experiences related to childhood.

EMDR therapy is designed to help you move past the intensity of tough memories, and reprocess them so they moved into long term memory. Often with traumatic experiences we can feel as though we are still holding on to them, through triggers, felt in the mind and body.

This approach is somewhat different to talking therapy, and means that the traumatic event doesn't need to be explored verbally in the same way that traditional psychotherapy might expect, which can be useful for some people.

Below is a website that can be explored to understand how EMDR might help you.
