About me and my therapy practice
About me
I am a qualified person-centred counsellor and I belong to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and have completed specialist training in working with women and girls who have experienced rape, sexual abuse, and domestic violence.
I am a warm and empathic counsellor; I appreciate how hard it can be to ask for help and I will do my best to help you to feel supported and understood. I am passionate about empowering others, and I genuinely want to support you.
My Therapeutic style
It is imperative that we build a good working relationship. My aim is to help people to feel as comfortable as possible, to build up the confidence to talk about any difficulties in the knowledge that they are in a safe space and won’t experience any form of judgement.
As a person-centred counsellor, I will enable you to explore your own issues, feelings beliefs and behaviour. It is my belief that you are the expert on yourself and no one else knows exactly what it’s like to be you. Through the counselling journey it is hoped that you can become more self-aware and confident to achieve the desired outcomes.
Practice description
I have over 24 years’ experience of working with adults and children who have experienced trauma, emotional issues and need support with their mental health.
I have worked in various settings, psychiatric hospital for children, local authorities, residential homes, supporting foster carers with looked after children.
I worked in mental health teams with adults and children with more severe and enduring mental health difficulties, many of whom had experienced traumas which contributed significantly to the difficulties they were experiencing.
I have worked extensively with looked after children both in a local authority and private setting. I continue to work with young people with attachment difficulties and those who have experienced developmental trauma.
I worked directly with foster carers who need emotional support to care for traumatised young people.
For the last 4 years I have been working with women and young girls who have survived domestic and/or sexual violence. In a counselling capacity I have supported them to re-build their confidence, empower them to re-build their lives and supported them during pre- trial therapy.
I offer both remote and in person counselling.
