About me and my therapy practice
My name is Ben Bamber and I am a qualified counsellor, based in South Manchester. I specialise in person-centred counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy. Offer both in person (walk and talk therapy and online sessions. Throughout your counselling journey you will be in control and I will ensure to provide you with a warm, friendly and open environment to explore those difficult thoughts and feelings you are experiencing. I believe everyone should have the opportunity to feel listened too, accepted, without fear of judgement and feel welcomed in a safe space. I have six years of experience working in mental health clinical settings supporting individuals through addiction, eating disorders, psychosis, bipolar, PTSD and depression. My other passion is voluntary work supporting individuals living with HIV/AIDS, fighting stigma and allowing everyone to have the opportunity to flourish. For the last three years I have worked as a person-centred counsellor for a leading LGBTQI+ organisation and also providing counselling through a service commissioned by the NHS for clients referred by their GP.
Practice description
The mode of counselling I specialise in is Person-Centred psychotherapy, uniquely humanistic, as the approach affirms that each person has the resources within them to grow and develop, providing they have the right support.
I also provide more structured sessions, in the form of Cognitive behaviour therapy, focusing on setting goals, collaboratively looking at your thoughts, emotions, feelings, behaviours, gaining insight to come up with a treatment plan to promote change.
Person-centred psychotherapy profound characteristic is that it is non-directive whereby you decide what to explore in the sessions. It is not my role to advise or to try to fix your difficulties, I am here to help you understand your emotions and behaviours, so that you can learn to manage and gain a better insight. In addition I can help you to gain a greater perspective into yourself. It is expected of me to demonstrate empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard so that you feel safe to share those difficult thoughts, feelings and actions you are experiencing. I am currently only delivering sessions online via video or telephone, however I am happy to do walk and talk therapeutic sessions, outdoors in the South Manchester Area.
My first session
I offer a free 30 minute initial consultation before our first session together, this is an opportunity to explore what your looking for to explore more deeply, ask questions or queries you may have and most importantly for you to decide if I am the right fit for you.
In our first session we will briefly discuss our working agreement together and explain the importance of a review to see how you are finding the therapeutic process.
