About me and my therapy practice

Hello my name is Phil. Thank you for taking an interest in my profile and may I acknowledge your courage in seeking help. I have been a client myself and I never underestimate just how difficult it can be to reach out and take the first step.

I’m a Person Centred counsellor. This model of counselling is from the humanistic school of counselling and is based on the theory that each of us has within us the natural resources to live life as fully as we can. Sometimes we lose connection with these resources and one way to reconnect is through a therapeutic relationship which is collaborative, non-directive, authentic and free from judgment.

I have been trained in an integrative approach and have an understanding of cognitive behavioural therapy, transactional analysis and grief and loss, as well as being trauma informed. I regularly participate in continued professional development. As much as it is important to have knowledge and understanding of different counselling models, I truly believe that therapy is as unique and creative as you are.

I have experience of working with people with a wide range of issues including chronic illness and disability, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, issues around self-esteem and identity, both male and female domestic abuse, relationships, LGBTQ+, neurodiversity including autism and ADHD, discrimination, suicidal ideation and working around trauma.

I strive to provide a safe and impartial space to hopefully create the conditions necessary in order to help you understand and accept yourself. My aim is to try to gain an understanding of how you experience the world through your eyes by attentively listening to you and supporting you on your journey.

Practice description

I am a registered member of the BACP and committed to work to their ethical framework. It is paramount to me that I put your safety and needs first and my values, principles and moral qualities inform my practice at all times. I am devoted to ensure that when it comes to your wellbeing, I intend to do the most good and least harm.

I am passionate about equality and social justice and endeavour to provide access to counselling for anyone who needs help and support, regardless of race, age, gender, sexuality or social status.  I myself have lived experience having a neurological condition called M.E. and also having a good understanding of neurodiversity within my family.

Thanks again for taking the time to read about me and please don’t hesitate to contact me if you feel that we can work together. If not, may I wish you all the best for you going forward and in everything you do.
