About me and my therapy practice
Welcome to my profile 😊 I strongly believe that mental health is just as important as physical health and should be treated as so. I am a person-centred therapist here to support you through the obstacles that you may be facing. Therapy has helped me through my own issues with binge eating disorder, anxiety and depression. I now love my job helping others through therapy. I am able to work with individuals aged 16+ face to face in Liverpool city centre, and in other locations online via teams or by telephone.
I have a first class psychology degree, a post-graduate diploma in counselling and psychotherapy, a certificate in autism awareness in counselling, and I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Before going into private therapy practice I worked in retail, care, at Harmony General Counselling Service, and Liverpool Domestic Abuse Service. My main experience is with depression, SAD, stress, anxiety, relationships, neurodivergence, disabilities, abuse, and eating disorders. I regularly engage in clinical supervision and training to ensure my continuing professional development, I am insured and I hold an enhanced DBS.
Client quotes:
"Melissa is very understanding and I am comfortable opening up to her. Thanks Melissa ! You have helped me put myself back together. I would be nowhere near as far along as I am without your help. :)"
"Thank you for being so understanding and kind. I feel like I get so much out of the sessions. I feel really lucky to have found you."
"I can really see the improvement in my mental health from when I started with her to now. She creates a safe space where I feel comfortable to talk through difficult and challenging life events, so that I can better understand and process them, which infinitely improves my mental health! I also really appreciated that she made the time to see me around my busy schedule"
Practice description
Each session lasts between 50 and 60 minutes. They can be face to face, online via teams, or telephone. Person-centred therapy involves talking through your issues. It works by providing a safe, accepting, and confidential space where you can explore what is going on in your life without any judgement. It can help by allowing you to talk freely, increasing self-awareness, and helping you to find what you need whether that be acceptance or making changes. I understand that everyone’s experience is different so we can progress at a rate that is comfortable for you. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
My first session
I offer a free phone consultation before the first session to answer any questions you may have and to see if it would be suitable for us to work together. During the first session we would discuss what has brought you to therapy and take it from there.
