Availability
I currently have availability within my practice to work with new clients. I work both weekdays and weekends and am able to offer morning, afternoon and early evening appointments. I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation so that we can get to know each other and see if I will be the right fit to work with you.
About me and my therapy practice
I am passionate about counselling and psychology and knew I wanted to work as a professional therapist from a young age. I am fascinated by people, and trying to understand what makes them who they are. I am also dedicated to life-long learning and am therefore fully committed to a programme of continuing professional development.
All people have the potential to be the very best version of themselves, providing they are met with the right conditions. Sometimes, circumstances in people’s lives can act as road blocks and this can lead them down paths they wouldn’t have chosen. Finding the way to fulfilment can be difficult on your own. I can walk alongside you so that together we can get you nearer to where you want to be in your life.
I currently offer online counselling. Working online means you can experience counselling from the comfort of your own home, or even in your work lunch hour, as long as you have privacy. Research has shown that online therapy is as effective as in-person therapy. You can get the support you need and book a free initial consultation.
Practice description
I am trained in integrative counselling, utilising both person-centred and psychodynamic theory. I am able to draw from a variety of theoretical approaches and use a range of tools to customise our counselling sessions, which meets the individual client’s needs. I offer both individual counselling and couples’ or relationship counselling.
In person-centred counselling, the counsellor offers empathy, genuineness (congruence) and unconditional positive regard. The client is the expert about their life and brings to the session what they feel they need to work with. The focus in this approach is in the here and now. Whereas in psychodynamic therapy, the counsellor is more directive: there is more focus on the past and the unconscious. I like to make use of both theories and collaborate with clients to tailor the therapeutic experience to suit individual needs. When working with couples I also use transactional analysis and solution focused therapy.
Individual Counselling
Counselling is a talking therapy: it is a process in which a person can improve their life by exploring, processing and challenging their thoughts and feelings safely, alongside a non-judgemental, genuine and empathetic therapist.
Counselling can help if you are stuck in life or feel like something is holding you back from fulfilling your potential. If you are battling anxiety, low self-esteem or depression, counselling can help. It can be a place to process trauma safely or gain a better understanding of yourself. Counselling can also improve interpersonal relationships by helping you understand your attachment style and what impact this might be having on your relationships.
Therapists are there to listen to and support the client on their journey, helping them deal with emotional difficulties and improving their quality of life. Rather than giving advice, the therapist’s role is to empower the client to be autonomous and find the right path for them.
My first session
Our first session will be a chance for me to get to know you, what you are looking for from counselling and what your aims and goals are. Together we can work collaboratively towards making these goals achievable. I will aim to provide you with personalised coping strategies. If appropriate I will ask you to take brief anxiety and depression questionnaires so that we can monitor your progress in our six weekly review sessions.
