About me and my therapy practice
What feels like a long time ago now, during the worldwide pandemic, I heard a radio report about a Japanese theme park, where in an attempt to prevent the spread of covid, they had instructed customers to ‘scream inside your heart’ when riding the rollercoaster. This statement really resonated with me; I thought about the clients I was working with who had silenced their own screaming, who would talk about putting on a happy front or simply reply ‘I’m fine’ while enduring a tumult of emotion inside.
Keeping our emotions locked in can manifest in many ways, your patience is short, you find yourself overreacting to your family, friends, colleagues. You are having trouble sleeping, your eating is disordered, thoughts are going round and round in your head.
There is a time when we need to start listening to the signals we are being given. Counselling can give you time and space to freely express those thoughts, fears, shame, sorrow, pain.
Whatever it is you are experiencing I will work with you to focus in on what your needs are - and what you require - to develop a sense of agency over your life and the way in which you interact with others.
Practice description
In addition to my training in Person Centred counselling, I am ever open to different ways of working with people to ensure that I can attend to individual need, background and culture. Along the way I have undertaken additional training in Gestalt, Narrative therapy, Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE), trauma and suicide intervention. I have experience of working with clients who are neurodivergent and those from the LGBTQI+ community.
In my private practice I work in person and online. I see clients 18 years and over. Sessions are £45
My first session
Once you have made contact with me, I will email you some information on the process and we'll arrange our first meet.
Our first session together is an opportunity for you to talk through what has brought you to counselling, to establish what you would like to change, and for you to ascertain whether you feel comfortable working with me. The client therapist relationship is important, you need to feel safe in order to trust, so you have the full therapeutic hour (50 minutes) on our first meet to see how that sits with you.
