About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name’s Ayo. I provide short and long-term therapy to young people and adults in a space that is completely safe and non-judgmental. My practice is LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent-affirming and inclusive of all creeds and colours. Being a person of colour myself, I understand the importance of cultural competence, of having someone understand your unique cultural background, and can ensure this is what you will be met with at all times.
My years of training as a psychotherapist are complemented by my work as a domestic abuse (DA) specialist. I work with both victims and perpetrators and bring a nuanced, yet practical understanding of DA be it verbal, physical, emotional, coercive control, sexual, financial, stalking and harassment.
A degree in social anthropology, further training in family therapy and global mental health also mean that, as well as relationships, I’m particularly sensitive to the role culture and society play when it comes to mental health and seek as much as possible to consider these broader systemic factors.
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I worked in journalism and TV production. I bring a gentle curiosity to sessions that encourages clients to tell their story - something I see as being central to the therapeutic process.
Practice description
We are all unique. I therefore work with each client differently depending on individual needs and goals and draw upon aspects of three main therapeutic approaches:
• Person-centred – I am with you every step of the way whilst having full trust in your ability to find your own solutions
• Psychodynamic – working with the unconscious part of your mind and understanding how the past influences your present
• CBT – identifying cognitive patterns that negatively impact your emotions and behaviour
I also pay close attention to the body whether that’s tuning in to see what it’s communicating, finding ways to incorporate joyful movement/exercise in your daily life or signposting you to a somatic practitioner.
My first session
I offer a free, 30-minute introductory consultation which will give me an idea of what’s brought you to therapy, enable you to get a sense of me and ask any questions you may have.
