About me and my therapy practice
I am a BACP registered, trauma-informed, Integrative psychotherapist which means I can use different approaches according to your needs.
This may include identifying and exploring your emotions, looking at how your past is impacting your present or focusing on strategies to help you move forward.
How can therapy help me?
Therapy can help you feel more in control of your emotions, your relationships, and your life. It can help you gain:
- A deeper understanding of yourself and why you feel and act the way you do
- More ability to identify and regulate your emotions to help tackle overwhelm, anxiety or low mood/motivation
- Improved self-acceptance and self-worth and an ability to trust yourself and your instincts
- More understanding of others and how to better connect and develop intimacy
I hold a Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling.
I undertake continual professional development and training including: trauma and the body, anxiety, CBT, personality disorders, complex post traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), shame, narcissistic abuse, ADHD awareness and nutrition and mental health.
I am certified as Proficient in Online Counselling.
My professional background is in senior charity management and politics. I hold a BA (Hons) in History and Politics and an MA in Political Philosophy.
Practice description
I aim to offer a supportive space, free from judgement to explore difficult feelings at your own pace. My approach is to demystify the therapy process, helping you feel informed and involved from the start. Expect a warm, down-to-earth approach with occasional humour.
I support people who are struggling with persistent anxiety, low mood, a sense of being overwhelmed and/or low self-worth. Many of my clients have also experienced trauma or narcissistic abuse.
Difficult thoughts or emotions from past or present relationships may be weighing on you. Your inner critic might be chipping away at your confidence, making you feel as if you’re never good enough. Do you often compare yourself to others? Maybe you feel stuck—unsure of what you want or how to move forward.
Past trauma can often show up in ways you don’t expect—such as heightened alertness (hyper-vigilance), strong reactions that feel disproportionate to the situation, or 'emotional flashbacks' that bring up painful memories and impact your daily life.
As an integrative therapist, I tailor my approach to suit you, drawing from different therapeutic techniques based on your needs. This may include:
- Exploring and 'processing' emotions to better understand your thoughts and behaviours
- Examining how past experiences may be shaping your present
- Using 'psycho-education' to boost insight- eg looking at the impacts of trauma on the brain or exploring the biological mechanisms of anxiety or depression where appropriate
- Developing practical strategies to help you move forward and make meaningful changes. This is the 'what now' part after insight into the origins of distress is gained
My first session
Starting therapy can feel daunting. I offer a free 20 minute video or phone consultation so we can explore your issues further, give you the chance to ask questions and to understand how I might be able to help you.
If you decide to go ahead we will have an initial assessment where we will set some goals for you and agree a number of sessions. You are, of course, free to leave counselling at any time.
These will be reviewed as we go along so we can check if you feel you are making progress and decide any changes that need to be made. I want you to feel consulted and engaged throughout.
