About me and my therapy practice

Hello!   My name is Angela and I'm a Psychodynamic counsellor offering private sessions either in Stratton-on-the-Fosse near Bath, or online.

I work with individual adults on a range of issues including anxiety, depression, abuse (emotional and sexual), low self-esteem, trauma and loss.

I am mindful of the impact of past experience on current relationships and behaviours. This impact is often outside of conscious awareness and can bring about feelings of being stuck in a state of mind, overwhelmed or confused. When this occurs, it can be helpful to find support outside your usual network.

I work with a positive regard and without judgement within either a time limited or open-ended framework, depending on your needs. Unlike Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) my work is non directive. With careful listening I look to help restore inner balance through increased self -awareness. This can bring about new perspectives and new possibilities for you moving forward.

Training, qualifications & experience

I began my training in 2012 at Wessex Counselling and Psychotherapy Services. I gained a Foundation Certificate in Counselling and Listening Skills in 2013, and I qualified with a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling in 2016. I have since worked within the organisation as a sessional counsellor. I have worked with young adults at Bath College and within the NHS Mental Health Services at The Royal United Hospital, Bath.

Practice description

I offer weekly counselling sessions at a regular agreed time. I work for approximately 42 weeks a year, and I generally follow the local academic term dates. I aim to give at least a months notice of any leave days I take.

My consulting room is found at the end of a long tree lined drive, on the site of a working farm. There is a large carpark at the front of the building. There are other therapists who also work within the building. There are toilets (including disabled) on the premises.

My first session

When you make contact, I will offer an initial consultation where we can look at the relevant issues and decide if what I provide feels right for you. I charge a reduced fee of £20 for this initial 'trial' session.

I will make notes in the first session, taking information about what brings you to counselling at this particular time, your history (including significant life events), and also what you hope to gain from counselling.  I will also request your Doctor's details and I will explain clearly the circumstances in which I would use them. I will provide you with an information sheet which outlines my way of working.

If we proceed with weekly sessions you will find a calm and confidential space where you can think and speak freely.
