About me and my therapy practice
My name is Alison and I have 20 years’ experience working as a psychologist, plus 6 years’ experience practicing as a counsellor and psychotherapist in private practice. This experience has provided me with insight, working alongside people from all walks of life, and deeply appreciating and understanding that life can seem overwhelming and very difficult to cope with at times. You might experience a lot of anxiety, feelings of sadness and loss, low mood, depression, or trauma; you may be at a stage where you are unsure who you really are. If you are in a difficult place right now, maybe I can help. We will use our first session to explore what it is you are looking for from therapy, and how we might work together. Some of my clients work with me for several years, some for a few months, depending on the outcome they are looking to achieve.
I am registered with the BACP, BPS, and a member of UKATA, working online and face to face in the beautiful, peaceful setting of Borth, near Aberystwyth, in west Wales. My specialist training is in Transactional Analysis, and I offer counselling and psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, and small groups, within an accepting, non-judgemental and validating space for you to share your experiences and learn new ways of being…hence the name of my practice: Being Me therapy. These sessions can be face to face or online; I also offer clients’ outdoor therapy – walk and talk – using the seashore and surrounding woodland if you would prefer this option.
If you are interested in individual therapy, couples therapy or joining a group, please call me on 07988 763800 or email: alison@beingmetherapy.co.uk or alm53@aber.ac.uk to book an online or face to face appointment.
Practice description
Over the years I have helped individuals and couples with issues including: trauma, loss, generalised anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, OCD, PTSD, problem drinking, drug use, and other addictions, personality disorder, anger management, work-related stress, as well as relationship breakdowns, difficulties and changes. I love working alongside people on their journey and have a deep admiration for their ability to grow and change despite life’s many challenges. During our work together you can gain a deeper understanding of who you are, what has shaped you, and how you can change the ways in which you communicate, think, and feel, which in turn deepens your relationship with yourself and others around you. I work on the premise that everyone is unique, and I can help you make choices about the future, and to build intimacy and autonomy.Training, qualifications & experience:
