About me and my therapy practice
I’m Aoife, a BACP registered, Irish therapist based in Manchester.
In my practice, I use a person-centred approach, which puts you at the centre of everything we do together. I believe in the power of empathy, understanding and a supportive, non-judgmental environment to facilitate change and increase self-awareness.
Therapy is a space where we can explore your feelings, make sense of your experiences and find a way forward through difficult times.
I provide the environment for us to explore your mindset and emotional reactions. Our sessions are guided by you and whatever it is that you wish to talk about. Sessions can be an outlet for stress or anxiety, increase self- awareness and improve mental health and well-being.
Practice description
The relationship between you and your therapist is the key factor for therapy to be successful.
I provide the right conditions of empathy, a non-judgemental attitude and honesty to develop a supportive and helpful relationship for you to open up and discuss what you need to..
By exploring your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours in a safe and supportive environment, you can develop your self-awareness and be empowered to make choices that align with your true self and foster meaningful growth.
For some, patterns in relationships may be unhelpful and you may wish to talk about this in therapy. These patterns are often formed in childhood/parental relationships and can impact on current relationships in negative ways. Being aware of these familiar patterns can help to break them and help to find new ways of relating.
If you wish, we can talk about things to do between sessions- mindfulness exercises or journaling.
I have experience working with a more solution focused approach if you have a specific goal or area you wish to address.
I provide a holistic approach and believe there are things you can do outside of sessions that can help.
My approach is collaborative with you and will adapt to your needs.
My first session
This is an important meeting for us to both meet and see if we can work together. I'm happy to answer any questions you have about my background or training. We'll speak about what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to get from sessions.
In the first session we will do some basic paperwork around contact information and privacy.
