About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I am Caroline, an MBACP registered counsellor, providing short, or long term therapy to adult individuals and couples. With a background and training in the fitness industry (and before that, as a solicitor), my core approach in counselling is person-centred. I have a special interest in the mind-body connection, working with mindfulness techniques learned from my time teaching yoga. I work in an integrative way, adapting to what might best suit your needs. I'm also a BACP Spirituality member.
Client testimonies:
'Caroline possess naturally, innate, rare and special talents of empathically and kindly understanding people'
'Counselling with Caroline has been invaluable. She took the time to really learn my story, and find out what I had been through.'
Practice description
I appreciate how daunting it is to take the first step, but I aim to ensure that you feel comfortable enough to begin your journey. If you are thinking about starting therapy, please contact me and together, we can look at what has brought you here.
Are you perhaps looking for someone to confide in? Perhaps somewhere where it feels safe to talk, express, and to explore? You may have reached a point in your life where you feel that you need help to deal with something, understand it, or come to terms with it. You may even feel unable to accurately pinpoint the reason behind your sense of unhappiness, or that feeling of being unable to cope. Sometimes, there isn't a name or heading for the way that you feel; yet you do have the inkling that now might be the right time to do something about it.
Anyone of us can find ourselves in need of a compassionate space, where we feel heard and understood, and almost anyone may benefit from talking about tricky issues, feelings, or situations.
Counselling can offer you the space to reflect upon what's led you here. I’ve witnessed the transformation that happens in counselling, and seen it change lives. Up to 85% of people who seek counselling say their lives have been changed for the better. That means I’m passionate about offering that opportunity to support people.
Often, you may begin counselling with a wish to explore one thing, but find yourself looking at other areas. Therapy is a unique process; as individual as you yourself are.
I believe that you are the expert in your own internal world, and you are the only person who can decide what the meaning of your life is, and how you choose to live it. I don’t offer advice, but instead, hope to provide a warm and welcoming environment, free from judgement, where we can work together to overcome or become reconciled with whatever it is you’re facing; finding, or building upon your existing resources, and seeking out new ways for you to move forward.
My first session
Our first session together lasts up to 20 minutes, and is free of charge. This gives you an opportunity to ask questions, and get used to the idea of the counselling process, which can sometimes feel unfamiliar and new. The counselling relationship is a unique one, and I understand that not every counsellor can help every client. I'm able to recognise when I cannot help, and I would signpost you to further sources of support, which may be other mental health support, or alternative methods of counselling. We will talk about what has brought you to counselling, and whether I'm the right therapist for you.
If we decide that we want to try working together, I will send you a copy of our counselling agreement, together with some additional information about how counselling works. I will also send you a brief assessment form for you to complete before we begin. If you then decide you want to go ahead, we'll also agree a suitable time and practice venue , and how the sessions are to take place.
