About me and my therapy practice
My name is Bhav; psychotherapist and qualified counsellor.
Looking for somebody to talk to can be a daunting prospect. I was in this position myself earlier in my life, before opening up and talking to a counsellor quite literally changed my life. It was a big step.
I will listen and give you the space and time you need to talk about what is troubling you. Together we will be able to make sense of what is happening for you and overcome what's blocking you from living your life.
Every counsellor has a different style and it is important that you choose somebody who you feel comfortable with and can connect to. I offer a complementary consultation which will feel like your first session. This gives us a chance to see how we can work together and for you to experience how it would feel like talking to me. Following this, we can arrange some more sessions.
I can be creative in my approach to ensure that we work in a way that is most effective for you but also challenging. I'll gently support you thoughout the process. Counselling can be life changing, it is something that I feel very passionate about.
Practice description
I offer a kind heart, patience and a sincere appreciation of the difficulties you may be facing. I like to be creative in how we can work best together, I'll always be led by what feels comfortable yet challenging to you.
I have experience working with anxiety, depresssion, trauma, loss of identity, childhood neglect, workplace stress, self-esteem and more. I have worked with people that have felt stuck in their lives or need support around making a life changing decision. Often people just feel like something is not quite right but are unable to articulate what it may be until they have counselling. I'll provide the space for you to be able to make sense of things.
Although I see clients from a range of backgrounds, I have a specialism in offering culturally sensitive counselling. I have experience of working with cultural identity, intergenerational trauma, second generation guilt, racism, oppression and the difficulties of navigating multiple cultural frameworks.
I am increasingly seeing more men coming for counselling. In many cases, I am the first person they have opened up to and been able to show their vulnerability.
My first session
Your initial online consultation is complementary and will last around 30-40 minutes. This session will allow us to explore what has brought you to counselling and how we can work together. It will give you an idea of how it will feel to have me as your counsellor. It's a gentle introduction to counselling and an opportunity for me to guide you through the process and how I work.
Our next session would then be where we will consider in greater detail how you are currently feeling and how counselling could help you. We will go through an assessment which covers your background history, key relationships and other relevant aspects of your life.
From then onwards it really is different for everybody, the journey could take many forms and I will be there to support you along the way.
