About me and my therapy practice

I prefer to think of myself as a fellow human who is on the same journey as you are. We are making our way through the experience of being alive and of having this lifetime to spend. Yes, we seek happiness in the midst of life’s difficulties, and ultimately there is no other puzzle for us to solve.

My passion comes from my conviction that we all have the potential to create that experience, and that accessing this potential is a skill of unlearning our developmental compensations. This is a fascinating process in which unconscious learning must be brought into conscious awareness: we cannot unlearn anything that we don’t yet recognize we have learned.

Practice description

I completed my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of North Texas (UNT) as a response to my calling to the helping profession. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas and a National Certified Counselor (NCC), as well as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT), and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I bring my rich personal experience of recovery to my academic training and my clinical expertise, and most importantly, to my passion for sharing the hard-earned lessons of my own journey with those who seek to live a life of Empowered Maturity™.

I also hold a Master’s degree in Architecture from Yale University and a Bachelor’s degree in Oriental Studies from the University of Oxford. I grew up in the USA, Japan, and the United Kingdom as the son of my Chinese mother and my European father, who served in Switzerland’s diplomatic corps. I have an exceptionally diverse cultural background that has exposed me to an uncommon breadth of social context and human experience. These contribute to my natural ability to connect authentically and compassionately with clients from all walks of life. I am touched by what we have in common as members of the human family, while appreciating and understanding our diversities. I speak fluent English, French and Chinese (Mandarin).

In addition to my education and experience, my approach to counseling is also informed by the idea that we are “spiritual beings having a human experience”, and that optimal wellness is a holistic proposition that includes our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions at the highest level.

My first session

I offer Initial Consultations (£160) to prospective clients, during which I invite you to share your counselling objectives, and I elaborate on how we might work together. I encourage you to assess how you feel about our interaction to determine whether our collaboration will feel comfortable and natural to you.

My qualifications aside, it is important to feel an affinity for your counsellor; one should look forward to seeing one's counsellor, and that is a very personal and subjective thing.
