About me and my therapy practice
With so many therapist profiles out there, it can be difficult to know which one to pick. Perhaps you know exactly what you are looking for, or perhaps you aren't sure. Maybe you've had previous counselling or therapy that wasn't quite right for you, and are looking for something different this time.
I believe in the importance of finding a therapist who is the right fit for you. Someone you feel comfortable with, who understands you, and has the skills and experience to help you towards your goals. Here is a little bit about me and the way that I work:
I would describe my therapy style as warm, honest and collaborative. To me, therapy should not feel impersonal, rigid, or mysterious. I aim to create a space where people feel genuinely heard and accepted as they are. The aim is to leave each session with greater clarity, understanding and self-compassion.
I have worked with adults from all walks of life, both privately and within third sector roles. I have previously worked with secondary care services (CMHT), helping people with more complex mental health needs. Alongside my private practice, I currently work part-time as a therapist and manager for NHS Talking Therapies (previously IAPT), working with people who are experiencing issues such as depression and anxiety.
I am qualified to Masters level, and follow a relational and integrative approach to therapy. I also hold an degree in Psychology, which provides a wider perspective about how our minds work.
One of my interest areas is supporting people who have experienced harm when working with other professionals in the past (e.g. misconduct of a therapist or social worker). Although these are rare situations, people often feel they cannot trust another professional again, and miss out on the support that they deserve. I provide a safe and ethical space to help process this experience, at a gentle exploratory pace to suit the individual.
Please visit my website if you'd like to know more about me or the sessions.
Practice description
I offer both short-term and long-term (open-ended) Counselling and Psychotherapy. Sessions are held once per week and last for 50 minutes. Both face-to-face and remote (video) sessions are available.
Face-to-face sessions are held in a comfortable and confidential space in Drighlington (BD11). This is located close to Junction 27 of the M62, accessible by car and bus links from both Leeds and Bradford. Free on-street parking is available. There are toilets and a waiting area. Please note that there are steps to enter the building and therapy room, therefore this is not wheelchair accessible.
I will soon be offering a further clinic in Leeds City Centre.
Remote sessions are shown to be just as effective as meeting in person, and can be a convenient way of accessing therapy without travelling. Remote sessions take place via secure video call (usually Zoom). You simply need a quiet, confidential space and a device with camera and microphone.
My first session
I offer a free, initial call to talk about your goals, and explore whether working together would be a good fit for you.
The first session after this initial call would involve talking in more detail about you and what brings you to therapy. We would look at a therapy agreement together and answer any questions you might have. We would agree together what the future sessions might look like. This might be different depending on what you would like to work on, and whether you are looking for short-term or open-ended sessions.
