About me and my therapy practice

Hi, I’m Robbie – I’m an Integrative Counsellor/Psychotherapist based in Kelham Island.

I tend to see the sorts of things that bring us to Counselling and Psychotherapy as being quite existential issues – anxiety, loss, depression, relationships with ourselves and others, loneliness, identity, love, work, family, responsibility. Counselling and Psychotherapy can be a place to engage with our personal and unique experience of such issues as they appear in our own lives.

I think that having a dedicated space to intentionally explore our experiences, thoughts, emotions, memories, patterns etc with a sense of curiosity and compassion can lead to new perspective, self-knowledge, and change. I’m committed to offering this space and have always been hugely drawn to reflective conversation and its potential to deepen our relationship with ourselves and others.

Counselling and Psychotherapy can also be a place to begin when feeling a bit lost but unsure why, sometimes a place to talk through and process traumatic experience, sometimes a space to consider what our particular talents and strengths are and how we might be using them or not.

Each relationship is unique, created between the two of us, and led by you in terms of how we use the time together and what you want to talk about. It can require a real courage to trust another person with the details of our inner lives and experiences; I take this seriously and aim always to be a warm, genuine, and collaborative sort of a presence.

Previous to training as a therapist I worked in hospitality and the arts and have an ongoing interest in the therapeutic value of creative expression. I’m also interested in Philosophy, Sociology and Psychology as different lenses we might look through to help us make sense of ourselves and the world around us, each potentially being a piece of the puzzle.

Practice description

I’m an Integrative Counsellor/Psychotherapist by training, which means that my modality is an integration of aspects of different theories and approaches - most notably Person Centred and Existential approaches.

In practice this means that I endeavour to understand rather than judge, and that any responses, questions and reflections offered along the way are given in the spirit of shared enquiry rather than advice or opinion as such.

My first session

The first session is a chance for us to meet and to talk a bit about what you’re looking for and if you think we’d be a good fit for working together.

Please get in touch at rt.counselling@protonmail.com if you have any questions or would like to arrange a time to meet.
