About me and my therapy practice

Hi, and a warm welcome to you. I’m Mary, an experienced psychotherapist and counsellor, working in person from my comfortable therapy room in Shawlands, Glasgow. I can also offer online sessions via zoom or over the telephone if you would prefer. My approach to counselling and psychotherapy is grounded in Person-Centred theory. This is a non-directive approach, which means that what we talk about in each session will be led by you the client. I hold a Masters degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy gained through the internationally recognised course at The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. I am also a fully registered member of the BACP and adhere to their ethical framework for the Counselling Professions.

Practice description

I have experience of working within a range of areas, including work with addictions, low self-esteem, relationship problems, anxiety, depression, loss and anger. These issues are often connected and can leave you feeling baffled, afraid and in despair.

Counselling can help you to understand your emotions and behaviours, enabling you to feel less stuck, move forward and make meaningful changes. Sometimes life throws us challenges and it’s often difficult to see a way out of them on your own. We can face these challenges together and I will support you every step of the way.

You do not have to do this alone. I offer a safe, confidential, space where you will be fully heard and accepted with no judgement. Together we will create a safe working environment in my calm and peaceful counselling room. You can do this and I can help!

My first session

Our first session will give us the opportunity to meet and find out how it feels to work together. During this meeting you can tell me a bit about what is bringing you to counselling and you will have the opportunity to ask me any questions you may have. From this first meeting we will build a strong, trusting and safe relationship where you will have the freedom to explore your thoughts and feelings and work towards being the best version of yourself.

I will also explain some important aspects of our counselling work together, such as confidentiality, length of session (50 mins), and frequency of sessions.
