About me and my therapy practice
Hello there, my name is Shona and I am a Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I understand it can be daunting taking that first step in contacting a therapist. You might feel you want to make changes in your life, want clarity over a life event or experience from the recent or distant past, or you might simply feel that things cannot continue the way they are. Whatever your situation I hope you'll find I offer a warm, safe and welcoming space.
I am eager to work across many issues but particular areas of professional interest include relationship issues, trauma, expatriation, grief, despair, loss, sexuality, 'third-culture kids', cross-cultural relationships, partners of those with addictions, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, spiritual and religious abuse, issues of and around twins, issues around sex work, partners (or family members) of those with addictions, the mother-daughter relationship, issues around low self-esteem/self-worth and The Highly Sensitive Person (HSP).
Counselling is not solely for the young and whilst I am happy to work with any adult age group I am particularly keen to work with older adults.
I practice in the English language but have worked with many clients for whom English is not their first language. In particular, I have a good understanding of the Italian culture.
I offer weekly in-person and online sessions (no monthly or fortnightly sessions).
I use what is known as a pluralist approach, meaning that whilst I draw on some of the more widely accepted psychological methodologies such as Person-centred, Psychodynamic and CBT, as well as using creative techniques, I seek to create an equitable, collaborative relationship with each client and together we work at finding the best course of counselling , one that reflects your unique personality, needs, wants and life experiences and where you are at in your life’s journey.
I invite you to take that first step. Choosing to commit to counselling is an act of bravery, self compassion and self love.
Practice description
I strive to treat each client with a non-judgemental attitude and with respect, acceptance, openness, honesty and integrity.
I am told I offer a warm and welcoming space to my clients particularly to those feeling lost, confused, angry, unsure, in pain, in despair, vulnerable, sad, betrayed, hurt, lonely, stuck or simply uneasy.
My hope for you is that you use the time we have together to explore the impact of whatever you have come to counselling with and that you feel safe enough to express your worries, concerns, pain, grief, anger etc and eventually we can look at strategies to enable you to live a fuller life.
My first session

This is your safe space. What I can help with
