About me and my therapy practice

Hi, my name is Stephen, (He/Him). I am a person-centred counsellor and have experience of offering counselling to both adults and children. I have a wealth of experience working within addiction both substance based and behavioural, an extensive career working with young adults, children, and teenagers, as well as much personal and professional experience working within the LGBTQI+ community. I also have experience working with a range of issues including, anxiety, depression, stress, and substance misuse issues.

I believe that counselling can provide a safe environment to encourage internal exploration as well as an opportunity to reflect and acknowledge thoughts, feelings, and emotions in order to move forwards with fresh understanding and self-compassion.

I aim to reply to enquiries within 24 hours.

Practice description

I offer a non-judgemental and neutral environment for you to explore any issues you feel you'd benefit from exploration around or additional support with.

This could include

• Addiction issues

• Issues surrounding gender identity or sexuality

• Anxiety

• Depression

• Low Self-Esteem

• Stress

• Self-harm

• Suicidal Ideation

I have worked for over 10 years within education and thus have the ability to build a strong rapport with children and young people, I have also had my own lived experience within addiction and my own mental health struggles and thusly am well placed to be able to offer an empathetic and non-judgemental environment to enable self-reflection and personal growth.

My experience as a member of the LGBTQI+ community has also enabled me to have a perspective of the struggles that can face this community specifically, and an awareness of how to work sensitively, affirmatively, and compassionately with other members of the community or those questioning their identity.

As a person-centred counsellor I work relationally and focus on the individual and helping them identify the answers that are right for them. I strive to create a warm environment conducive of sharing freely, openly and with honesty.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy); as such I abide by its ethical framework, have regular supervision, and engage in continuing professional development. I am enhanced DBS checked (Disclosure and Barring Service).

My first session

I offer a free no obligation intoductory phone consultation for up to 30 minutes, this is to give you the chance to ask questions, give us an opportunity to get to know one another a little, and help you decide whether you think I'd be a good fit for you as a counsellor.
