About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Nat (he/him)
Most people describe me as easy going, open, friendly, and say that my calm nature is contagious. I approach life with open-mindedness and very much enjoy challenging "the norm".
More than anything, I think that good counselling is about being with someone you trust, where you feel comfortable letting your guard down, and where you can say anything without feeling embarrassed or ashamed. I know from having my own therapy (yes, I'm still working things out too), that finding someone you 'click with' is a huge part of the process.
Experience:
I work with general difficulties such as anxiety, depression, loss, and self-esteem.
I also have specific experience helping people navigate the impacts of trauma and abuse; impacts that can cause intense anxiety/depression, isolation, suicidal feelings, and self-defeating thoughts.
A big passion of mine is working with people who feel stigmatised, repressed, or alienated by the pressures and judgment of society. In a world full of rigid labels and black & white views, we often mask parts of ourselves to fit in, which can be suffocating and demoralising. Although I can't change the world, I can offer you a small haven of acceptance where you can be yourself. As such, I welcome conversations on gender, sexuality, relationship diversity, neurodiversity, and unconventional life choices.
Qualifications:
- MSc Counselling & Psychotherapy (Keele University)
- Graduate Certificate in Counselling (Keele University)
- Certificate in Couples Counselling
- Certificate in Online Counselling
Practice description
What to expect:
In our sessions, we'll explore your concerns, try to understand things better, and see if we can find a way to help you feel less burdened. This can involve practicing acceptance, looking for insight, taking a fresh perspective, processing hard emotions and memories, identifying unproductive thought processes, or simply letting things out and decompressing.
Because everyone's different, I find sessions differ from person to person, so always approach counselling as a collaboration/exploration rather than a 'treatment'. I'll sometimes ask questions, offer observations, share my knowledge, but won't patronise you or pressure you into anything that doesn't feel right.
I value straightforward discussion rather than cold analysis, jargon, or textbook exercises, and will always be transparent. You won't be judged or dismissed, and we'll always take things at your pace.
I can't promise I've got the answers, but can promise that I genuinely care. I'll always accept you how you are, whether you need to laugh, cry, swear, or just have a moan. No topics are too taboo, and you can be completely open.
Relationship Therapy:
If you and your partner/friend/family member want to communicate better or tackle a difficult issue, having an impartial person present can give a fresh perspective, stop arguments escalating, and offer the safety to promote honest conversations. Whatever it is, I believe that change can happen when we understand and empathise with each-other.
I also have experience with LGBTQ+ relationships, as well as ethical non-monogamy and kink.
