About me and my therapy practice
After nearly 30 years as a Nurse in the NHS, I trained as an Integrative Counsellor. Much of my nursing career was working in Oncology (Cancer) and Palliative Care. Among my career in nursing, I have worked as a community Macmillan Nurse, a Macmillan Breast Care Nurse Specialist, and for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
As a counsellor I have experience working with young people aged 16-25 and their parents for a young person counselling charity in Hampshire, and currently work for a Cancer Charity as a self-employed counsellor working with clients who have cancer or are affected by cancer. This includes bereavement and grief counselling. I am also an affiliate counsellor at The Eaves Counselling and Psychology Service in Haslemere .
I am passionate about helping people improve their mental health and encouraging clients to grow and overcome their issues. I have a specialist interest in chronic illness, cancer and bereavement/grief counselling and working as both a nurse and a counsellor helps me have a better understanding of certain medical conditions and how illness can affect so many aspects of your life. The communication skills in nursing enable me to be truly empathetic
Practice description
Therapy can be hard. We often want our therapist to magic away our problems. But a good therapist can not do this. Instead we encourage our clients to seek the answers and changes they are looking for. As an Integrative Counsellor, I work with different psychological and counselling theories to help you explore your issues, worries and concerns. I work with you to support you in not only understanding yourself but also help you explore how you can make the changes to your life you are searching for in your personal growth.
I provide a safe space to support and work with you to explore your issues to help you gain a better understanding of yourself to reflect, grow and initiate the changes you are hoping to make. Our relationship is therefore built on trust, empathy and is completely non-judgemental. I work with you at your pace, and will listen and hear you to help you gain the changes and answers you are searching for.
I am beside you on your counselling journey and individualise therapy to suit you and do not “advise” you. This is important because only you know how you feel. Sometimes it can be helpful to explore the past to be able to move forward.
I work with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, ill-health, grief and bereavement, identity issues, anger management, work related issues, relationship issues, trauma, stress, self-esteem and health related issues.
My first session
I offer an initial free of charge 20 minute phone session explaining how I work in more detail, and gain an understanding of what you are looking to achieve from therapy. You can decide if you feel you can work with me and I can answer any questions or concerns you may have.
During our first session I will complete an assessment form with you so that I can gather further information on how your issues are affecting you in day to day life and look at the goals you are hoping to achieve. 48 hour notice for cancelling sessions is required. Any cancellation of a session under 48 hours notice will be charged in full
