About me and my therapy practice
Hello my name is Charlie. I am a qualified Therapeutic Counsellor for Children and Young People.
My practice is dedicated to providing therapeutic support for children and young people and I am a schools based counsellor. I have an extensive background in working with children and enjoy my job. Over the past 12 years I have supported young people across numerous settings both 1-1 and is small groups, exploring together issues such as identity, family relationships, confidence issues, self-harm and isolation. I have worked in family support, based in a community setting helping families manage complex problems. I aim to build dynamic relationships with my clients and work productively to help you on your journey. Together we will create a durable trusting relationship and we can work towards your preferred future.
Whatever it is you're going through, I can offer you space where you can safely land. Release some thoughts and feelings. There's no rush, we'll go at your pace and you can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. Everything you share is held confidentially, according to my strong ethical and professional values. I aim to support you in a down to earth way, with compassion, as you explore new ways of relating to yourself, your emotions, the world inside and around you. I hope we will together come to trust in the process of change, and enact the changes you want to see.
I am flexible in my approach. An initial session might include parents/carers to help outline what you feel you want from the support. Unlike many other settings, therapeutic counselling enables autonomy, I support children and young people to choose their own agendas and have their voices heard
Practice description
I have training in child and adolescent mental health and safeguarding qualifications to work with young people aged 7 and over. I work according to the BACP's competency framework for providing humanistic counselling to young people. I have worked, and continue to work, therapeutically with children and young people in community settings, as part of charitable initiatives and across a range of educational providers.
My understanding of child development, attachment and trauma enables me to build a positive rapport with my clients, bringing about lasting change. My group work includes Emotional Health and Wellbeing workshops, Nurture Groups and Drop-In’s to meet the needs of diverse children and young people. Parents and carers are welcome to get started and schedule a free 30 minute consultation with me, or if you're a young person and reading this then you're welcome to get started yourself.
My first session
Therapeutic counselling is not a one-size fits all and it's essential that you find a format that works for you. You are welcome to contact me to sound me out and share your fears, hopes and wishes. We may meet together for 6 sessions or more. It can be tough knowing where to start, talking isn't easy. Each session is friendly and positive, and affirms strengths and possibilities.
