About me and my therapy practice
I'm a qualified Integrative Counsellor with a Person Centred approach, a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and before setting up my private practice, I worked in project management, marketing and education for 20 years.
My counselling approach ensures you are kept at the heart of the counselling work. You decide what you want to talk about in sessions and the thoughts and feelings you'd like to explore. I don't offer 'fixes' to your problems and I won't give advice, but I'll reflect what I'm hearing, and might gently challenge you to enable you to gain more insight. I don't make assumptions and I work with empathy and curiosity to gain a deeper understanding of what life is like for you. I use a range of tools/techniques to suit your individual needs.
I create a confidential and non-judgmental environment so that you can feel safe, supported and able to express your thoughts and emotions even if at times, this might be tough. I hope that through growing a trusted and collaborative relationship, you'll feel heard and empowered to regain control, find clarity and make any changes that feel right for you.
The therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor is unique; it's a professional arrangement with ethical and practical boundaries in place, but what's shared within sessions can feel much more personal, vulnerable and emotional. I try to bring the two sides of the relationship together, working with professionalism as well as warmth and compassion.
Practice description
I work with adults and provide remote (zoom) and in-person counselling sessions, working from a private therapy room in central Reading.
At the start of the counselling relationship and to ensure we are aligned on how we're going to work together, clients and I discuss a collaborative working agreement which covers ethical standards such as confidentiality, supervision and safeguarding, as well as more practical aspects such as cancellation and payment terms.
I work with clients to outline the areas they'd like to focus on during their counselling journey, and hold regular reviews to ensure we're still on the right track together.
My first session
I offer a free initial consultation call (phone/online).
This call is an opportunity for us to start to get to know each other, for you to share what's brought you to counselling, for me to explain the process and my counselling approach, and for us to get a sense of how we'd work together.
If you decide to move forward with counselling with me, we will spend some of the first session talking through our shared working agreement together, which covers the boundaries of the counselling relationship such as confidentiality and ethical practice as well as the more practical aspects; fees, cancellation, venue and session time.
