About me and my therapy practice
My name is Kat. I am an integrative counsellor. I hold a Master's degree in Psychology and I am in the final stages of completing my Doctoral degree in Counselling Psychology.
My practice centers on the importance of connection and the quality of our therapeutic relationship. Together, we will navigate your unique journey, where your insights are valued and respected—because you are the true expert in your life.
I bring a doctoral-level expertise in multiple therapeutic modalities, including psychodynamics, CBT, third-wave CBT, and systemic approaches. What is most imortant, I offer a non-judgmental, empathetic space where you can explore your challenges and the deeper meanings behind them. Whether you're struggling with tension, stress, or emotional pain, I believe these experiences can also open the door to new possibilities, personal growth, and creativity.
In our work together, we'll focus on what truly matters to you—whether that involves understanding past experiences, addressing present difficulties, or fostering greater self-acceptance, self-compassion, and hope for the future. My approach is flexible and tailored to your individual needs, and we will work collaboratively to decide the best path forward.
Practice description
As part of my training, I am committed to maintaining a balance between being both a practitioner and a scientist, continuously engaging in personal and professional development. My theoretical approach, combined with my involvement in both research and clinical practice, provides me with a more holistic understanding of each individual. This enables me to tailor my approach to meet your unique needs and goals.
By staying connected to the latest evidence-based practices, I ensure that our work together is grounded in the highest professional standards. In my practice, I adhere to the ethical standards and professional guidelines set by the HCPC and BPS, ensuring a safe and ethical environment for your growth and healing.
Over the years, I have gained extensive experience working in diverse mental health settings. I’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals from a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
My career has included working with marginalized communities, refugees and survivors of domestic abuse, as well as individuals struggling with addiction, ADHD, Autism, and neurological conditions. I've also had the opportunity to work in both NHS settings—specifically within Cancer Services at Swindon Hospital—and in a Psychiatric Hospital in Poland.
Two years ago, I was involved in a research project at UWE's Research Clinic, where I provided psychological support using both Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Psychodynamic Therapy, while measuring the effectiveness of these methods.
Currently, I am working with The Southmead Project, where I provide long-term counselling for trauma survivors.
Following the professional and ethical guidance should I feel that the difficulties that you struggle with may exceed my competencies, I will aim to support you with finding suitable help. If we decide to work together, I will offer you a regular therapy slot and will hand you a therapeutic contract.
My first session
The first one or two sessions are an opportunity for us to get to know each other and determine if I am the right therapist for you. There is no obligation to continue therapy after these sessions. However, if you feel comfortable and would like to proceed, we can schedule regular weekly sessions at a consistent time. Each session lasts 50 minutes.
If you'd like, I offer a free 10-15 minute phone consultation where you can briefly share your concerns and needs. This will also give you the chance to ask any questions about my approach and see if my services align with what you're looking for.
