About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified integrative counsellor and able to offer you a safe, empathic, and non-judgemental space in which to speak about your thoughts and feelings.
Counselling is a talking therapy, and when we are troubled, talking is really important because it can be way of reflecting calmly on where you are, processing your experiences, and finding your way. The aim of our sessions together is to help you to become more self-aware, with greater self-esteem and more control over how you approach and react to life.
I am past sufferer from abuse, depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and l understand the value of counselling.
I come from an Asian background (Hindu) and understand issues within that culture and between that culture and others. These can affect the way we live and our mental well-being. I also speak fluent Gujarati.
I am to support client's living outside the UK: my current portfolio takes in individuals from across Europe and Asia.
Practice description
I qualified as a counsellor at Basingstoke College of Technology and am now embarking on a Masters Course in Counselling at Bath Spa university. I am a member of the BACP, and my work is underwritten by its Ethical Framework.
Since the beginning of 2021 l have worked as a volunteer counselling the bereaved and through that l have dealt with many other mental health issues including low self-esteem, feelings of guilt, shame, anxiety, suicide, eating disorders and trauma.
I have completed training with the Youth Justice Team where l am currently working with adolescents.
I provide both humanistic and cognitive counselling designed to help my clients in dealing with both emotional and behavioural issues.
I do believe that as individuals we have an innate power to develop in a positive way and that is the aim which I always work towards.
My first session
Every first session with a client is special because every client is unique. I do not ask clients to complete an initial assessment form: it is more important to me that both sides start to develop a close and trusting working relationship, and we can only do that by sharing conversation - and sometimes silence - together.
For that reason my first session tend to be rather lighter in tone and content but ultimately each session including the first is dictated by what the client wishes to do or say.
