About me and my therapy practice
Welcome, my name is Iza and I am a fully trained integrative therapeutic counsellor.
Working non-judgementally and with empathy, I aim to build a confidential, therapeutic relationship where you can talk about issues that may be troubling you. Our sessions are a safe space for you to process and work through difficult thoughts, emotions and feelings. Reaching out and asking for help can be daunting but can be the first step to managing your problems and bringing about positive change. Every person is unique, therefore, will require their own individual counselling approach. Being an integrative counsellor I will tailor your therapy to your individual needs by using different theories including but not exhaustive:
- Person Centred approach which encourages you to explore your feelings and beliefs, promoting self-awareness, confidence and independence.
- Psychodynamic approach explores our pasts and how they can affect us in the here and now.
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and actions, teaching you coping skills for dealing with different problems.
We will start by exploring what has brought you to seek counselling and what you hope to achieve from our sessions together, with the aim for you to find the right way forward. Where appropriate, I will use tools and strategies that you will be able to take with you and utilise long after your therapy sessions have ended.
In addition to my private work, I work for a charitable organisation offering counselling to adults and children over the age of 11.
I am a member of the BACP and abide by their ethical framework, by working safely and remaining fair and impartial, whilst promoting my client's autonomy and well-being.
Thank you for taking the time to read about me and my therapy practice. Please reach out if you would like to ask any questions or to discuss things further.
My first session
During your first session, we will talk through our working agreement together, including GDPR consent and I will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Following this we can approach the session however you feel comfortable. Some clients like to talk about something specific and what is going on for them here and now whilst others may want to give a general overview of what is going on for them. It is your time and I will take your lead unless you have specifically asked for purist CBT or solution focussed brief therapy. In these instances, a more structured approach would be needed.
