About me and my therapy practice
Why you are looking for counselling right now is unique to you, and is important. We will seek to find clarity and insight around why you feel the way you do, and to move towards a place of restored peace, purpose and sense of self.
Our therapeutic relationship will provide you with a safe space to explore past experiences that cause you pain and discomfort in the present, and also to work through recent experiences that feel overwhelming and are impacting your day to day wellbeing. You will also have an opportunity to better understand your attachment style and how you relate to others, and in so doing help you enrich and strengthen your own personal relationships.
At the core of my model is the belief that all people have the ability to heal, grow and change, given the right therapeutic environment. When the right conditions are available to us, I believe that we naturally develop a stronger sense of self, clearer boundaries between ourselves and others, and a freedom to experience each moment as it comes, rather than living anxiously in the future or painfully in the past. These are the conditions that I seek to offer you through counselling, enabling you to organically grow and heal from within.
As you experience a therapeutic relationship where you are not judged and are accepted as you are, you receive an opportunity to deepen your sense of self-worth as you discover that your value is not connected to anyone else’s expectations of you, but is found simply in who you are.
At times I will invite you to work creatively, using writing, art, objects or movement to explore your feelings and experience. This can be a powerful way to express what sometimes can’t be expressed in words, and to connect with your whole self as a way to find wholeness and healing. You don’t need to see yourself as creative for this to help you, you simply need to be open to explore.
Practice description
I work in Shepperton, Surrey, a 10 minute walk from Shepperton Rail Station and Shepperton High Street.
My counselling space is a peaceful and warm garden cabin, where you will find privacy and calm to connect with how you are feeling.
There is plenty of free parking directly outside, and coffee shops and riversides cafés nearby if you want to reflect and relax before or after the session.
I run counselling sessions in person or online, depending on your preference and location. I can also offer counselling over the phone if needed.
As an integrative counsellor, I draw on a wide range of counselling theories to suit your needs, including Person Centred Theory, Gestalt, Psychodynamic Theory and Transactional Analysis. I also integrate Kubler-Ross’s theory of grief to help you work through your own grief and loss where relevant to you.
I work with people of all ages. You are welcome whatever your stage of life, background, gender, sexuality and religious beliefs. I offer a welcoming relationship in which I seek to see and value you as the individual that you are.
I am not yet in a position to offer wheelchair access, however again please do get in touch if you need this provision as I can try to help you find someone who will be able to help.
Sessions are in English. If English is not your primary language and you would like counselling, you are welcome to contact me to find out if it would be possible to work together with the level of English that you have.
Sessions are 50 minutes, and take place at the same day and time each week.
Payment is straightforward and done with a bank transfer before each session begins. You are also welcome to pay in cash at the start of the session, or in monthly payments if this is easier for you.
I am committed to working in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework which outlines best practice for counselling, including confidentiality, data protection, on-going learning and development and required supervision to practise.
My first session
In the first session we will both sign a written Working Agreement that describes what we can expect from each other throughout the counselling relationship.
The Agreement includes details of my Cancellation Policy as well as a brief personal assessment so that I can understand more about you and what has brought you to therapy.
I will send the Working Agreement to you before our first session so that you have time to go through it at your own pace before you start therapy.
