About me and my therapy practice
I am a trained Integrative Therapist who combines an empathic approach with analytic theory. An Integrative Approach utilises theory and techniques from traditional and modern psychology and is tailored to suit each client's individual needs.
I believe that many of our problems and much of our psychological pain can be alleviated if we seek to understand ourselves and our experiences better. As an experienced psychotherapist, I offer the confidential space and necessary support for clients to embark on their journey towards greater understanding of themselves and their relationships.
I encourage clients to explore the ways in which significant events or relationships in their past may have had a lasting influence on how they engage with their present. I work with clients to help them explore their patterns of relating to others and understand how these affect their own sense of self. I also support clients in exploring how early attachments with their caregivers may have influenced how they perceive their surroundings and function in their relationships.
Increasing our self-awareness can help defuse the potential of emotions to overwhelm us and can serve to explain our actions and reactions to the world and people we encounter. This process of therapy can lead to a broader self-acceptance and greater emotional resilience. It can ground us in a more authentic way of living, improve relationships and help each of us recognise our true potential.
The Human Condition:
My study of Existential Therapy has given me a deep understanding of the loneliness inherent in human existence. As human beings, we are inescapably individual and mortal. Inevitably this awareness gives rise to lonely and anxious feelings that are increasingly ignored in the whirlwind of modern life and the mirage of comfort offered by cyberspace. I believe that therapy can offer a space for authentic human connection in which loneliness can be acknowledged and its purpose philosophically explored.
Practice description
My office is located at 6 Pembridge Mews W11 3EQ, in Notting Hill, West London which is 5 minutes walk from Notting Hill Gate tube station.
Successful therapy occurs within a unique and trusting relationship that builds between client and therapist. For this therapeutic relationship to develop, it’s necessary for the client to feel they are in a welcoming, safe, confidential and non-judgmental space. At first it may seem daunting and difficult to articulate certain feelings or problems. From the first session onwards, I seek to engage the client in a dialogue of patient and sensitive enquiry through which we can approach challenging or painful subjects. I can then provide the support and help so often needed in the journey towards greater self-awareness and self-confidence.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute introductory Zoom or phone consultation so that you can get a sense of me as a therapist and you can give me an idea of why you are seeking therapy. I will then be able to determine whether I am in a position to help and can answer any questions you may have about the therapeutic process. If you then choose to proceed with therapy we can book an initial session.
If you would like to schedule a free 20 minute Zoom or phone introductory consultation please email me at lucyreidpsychotherapy@gmail.com or call +44 (0)7572 990 323 and leave a message.
During the first session, I will briefly explain my integrative approach to therapy and how I work. I will clarify the confidential nature of the work and ask the client for their date of birth, name of their GP and a list of any mood-related medications they may be taking. I will then invite the client to outline, in any way they wish, their reasons for seeking therapy at this time. We can then discuss what they are hoping to gain from the process.
Towards the end of the session, I will summarise my understanding of the issues they are struggling with and will suggest an initial number of sessions.
