About me and my therapy practice
Hi I am Joanna. I qualified from Wealden Psychology Institute with a Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling (BACP Accredited). I have also completed many hours of additional training and CPD, including couples counselling, suicide and self harm, bereavement, safeguarding, trauma, shame, attachment, rape and sexual abuse, co-dependency and many more. I work freelance, in Private Practice, as well as being a volunteer counsellor for a local Bereavement service (St Michael's Hospice) and as a Voluntary Intermediary for an Adoption Agency (PAC) and Donor Conceived people helping people reunite with birth families and Donor relatives.
Practice description
My focus is to help individuals and couples heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. I achieve this by providing a non-judgmental, safe space, listening to your concerns, and together customizing a treatment plan that is unique to you and your own personal journey. I don't tell you what to do, but I do work dynamically and creatively drawing from different models of psychotherapy to support you, bringing you into your own awareness. I am warm, approachable and intuitive. For me it's all about the relationship, between you and I working with the whole self. Our client focused work helps you feel seen and heard and I can help you make sense of your thoughts and feelings in the here and now, helping you to make contact with what is stopping you reaching your goals and help you realize your full potential. Couples work can be extremely transformative, working with familiar conflict patterns, differing values and communication issues we can move towards a more positive healthy relationship through awareness and empathy, strengthening the bonds between you. We can also explore how to part in a healthy way when relationships come to an end. Drawing from the Gottman method and other successful research based couples models, I provide a structured and safe environment to explore relational difficulties.
My first session
I am happy to offer a free 20 minute consultation by phone or zoom, where we can explore your presenting issues and decide if we will be a good fit.
This is followed by completion of an intake form and a client agreement for the work we will undertake together.

Couples work is a little different. I use research based models and interventions to help support couples work through difficulties in communication and conflict. I offer a safe, structured and supportive space to explore the relationship and strengthen bonds. I can also support couples who wish to separate in a healthy way.
