About me and my therapy practice
Welcome
I'm Hayley and am an integrative adult counsellor.
There will be times in life where you may feel anxious, stressed or overwhelmed. Are you going through a life transition or experiencing loss or a bereavement? This can make everyday life challenging and difficult. You are not alone.
Reaching out for support for counselling is the first step. I can offer you a space to share and time to gain self awareness. Right from the start I will show respect and listen. How we get on in the counselling relationship is key to how easily you find to talk to me. The focus of the work is led by you.
Having trained as an integrative counsellor, means I do not have one approach. The foundation of my work is person centred and relational, so I will be able to tailor your counselling to your current needs. I have recently trained in mindfulness, so can compliment the counselling with this, if you choose. Each person is unique and I approach with an open mind. We will review our work together regularly to ensure you are at the centre of it.
You may not know what you want or need right now and what to expect. My role is to support you to feel empowered to make decisions going forward.
My previous work has been in healthcare a nurse and midwife. I did this for twenty years. I felt privileged to be part of people's life experience. My own life changing experience led me to train as a counsellor. To be able to give you time and space to be seen and heard can support your emotional needs and bring balance.
I have an interest in perinatal support, including birth experiences and baby loss. Also women's health, life transitions and bereavement. Although with my part time role working for Wellington Community counselling I work with clients with a whole range of life experiences including anxiety, depression, and neurodivergence. I have previously volunteered with The Nest in Exeter which offers social and emotional support through menstruation, pregnancy, birth and menopause.
Practice description
I work with adults over 18 years in person on a Monday, Tuesday Wednesday and Friday in the centre of Exmouth currently. This is a quiet room in a building of other small offices, including other therapists. There will be a receptionist to meet you between office hours. I also offer online and phone counselling other days in the week, including a Wednesday evening.
I am compassionate and mindful in my approach. As well as talking you may find working creatively can help.
My first session
I offer a free initial phone conversation. With this we can work out if we can agree a time that suits us both and briefly talk about my approach and what you can expect from me. I will be interested in what led you to look for counselling and what you would like it to support you with. If we then agree we are able to work together we can then book in a first session.
During the first session we will talk through the agreement between us for the counselling sessions. There will be some questions about current physical and mental health. We then build on what you may have already shared and what you would like to focus on and what your current needs are.
