About me and my therapy practice

Whatever the problem or situation that is causing you concern or distress in your life, I will listen without judgement and encourage honest and transparent communication in a safe and confidential space, that will enable you to explore the issues you are facing.

I'm Louise and I work with a wide range of clients who are experiencing difficulties such as depression, anxiety, stress, bereavement and loss, issues from a terminal illness diagnosis or a long term condition, low self-esteem and low confidence, problems at work, relationship problems with family or friends, and difficulties from their past that are causing problems in their present. I have worked with adults of all ages and with young people in and around Cornwall.

I work in a non-judgemental, warm mannered and confidential way where we can safely explore the issues that are negatively impacting your well-being, because sometimes our problems can feel too much and too difficult to manage by ourselves. I am here to listen.

I am fiercely passionate about good quality, accessible mental health services for all. I like to challenge the perceptions out there of counselling and mental wellness, and champion acceptance and authenticity. I’ve faced adversity in my own life and despite it being tough in places, I know it is all part of what makes me, me. I believe that showing kindness to ourselves and our situations can help with healing from our traumas and enhance our understanding of self.

I’m based in Mid and West Cornwall and find the local area to be instrumental in promoting healing – there really is something quite special about Mounts Bay! I have my counselling wagon, to hold sessions in with St Michael’s Mount serving as a magical backdrop (or somewhere of your choice). The van has lovely comfy seats where you can snuggle up under a blanket while I listen. If you prefer a more active session we can walk and talk along the coast path, and I am always open to hearing about your favourite places to explore.

Practice description

What happens in a session?

Basically you talk, I listen and maybe talk as well! That probably doesn’t answer the question fully and I know that if you have not had counselling this lack of knowing can be worrying. However, when we speak on the phone before our first session, I will hopefully be able to reassure you more.

Is a face to face session better than online or the telephone?

My belief is that it is just as effective as working face to face, in fact some people prefer working over the phone to face to face. These sessions are for you and therefore it is important you are comfortable with whatever arrangement suits you the best.

Where are the sessions held?

Mounts Bay is an amazing location. However we can meet anywhere within a 30 mile radius of Redruth. The location will be safe and private, we can walk outside, meet in your favourite cafe or why not choose a local beauty spot and and use ‘Tessa’ my counselling wagon. It will be at a mutually convenient locality.

What does therapy feel like?

It’s different for everyone. It can be a relief to talk about something that has been upsetting you. When someone who understands really listens to you, without judgement, it can be very powerful. Therapy is a safe place to let your feelings out and share what’s on your mind. Feeling heard, seen and understood can be very moving. You might feel like crying, start getting upset or even angry in therapy. This can feel unsettling and intense but I can help you process and cope with the emotions that you might start to encounter.

Can I bring my dog?

Of course! I am proud owner of my own rescue whippet and know just how reassuring the company of our four legged friends can be when we are feeling low.
