About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Victoria Williams. I am an Integrative trained and inclusive Counsellor and Psychotherapist with a strong Psychodynamic focus. I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a member of the Gendered Intelligence network of inclusive Counsellors and Therapists.
I believe that everyone has the ability to reach their full potential and lead a fulfilling life in a way that is right for them. Psychodynamic counselling or psychotherapy is effective in allowing you to make positive changes to your life, so you can deal with any overwhelming issues that are causing you emotional pain, unhappiness, or stress in the present.
Perhaps you're feeling trapped or blocked by the past, feeling stuck in survival mode with old patterns that keep resurfacing. Maybe you are recently grieving from a loss of some kind or can’t make sense of relationships, or emotions. You might feel a general flatness or overwhelmed with feelings of depression, and anxiety. I provide a non-judgemental, inclusive space to explore these difficult parts, thoughts, and feelings to gain greater understanding.
I know how hard it can be to reach out to take the first step when you need support. We are all individual, unique, and diverse therefore the reasons for seeking therapy vary significantly. If you know changes need to be made, I can provide a non-judgemental, inclusive, affirmative and confidential space to explore these difficult thoughts and feelings to gain greater understanding.
We can explore difficult issues and gain more insight into understanding you and your problems whilst finding solutions that are right for you. We can work through historical or recent trauma's to find different perspectives, more clarity, greater balance, and connection to yourself and others so you can lead a more fulfilling and meaningful life.
Practice description
My main focus is in the Psychodynamic field, however as an Integrative trained Counsellor I will use a range of approaches depending on what is most helpful to each client. I am trauma informed and take care to keep your safety at the centre of all our work.
My approach combines different techniques associated with Psychodynamic theories, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Internal Family Systems and The Rewind Technique for trauma and PTS/PTSD, in an empathic way to support you in the best way.
I am a qualified Yoga teacher and Yoga therapist specialising in Trauma. I often use elements of Neuroscience and Somatic work too, to help with understanding that the mind and body are connected.
I have focused my training in the fields of Trauma, Sex, Gender and Relationship diversity and Neurodiversity and have extensive experience working in the areas of suicide, self-harm, chronic pain, anxiety, low self-esteem, grief and loss, relationship difficulties and depression.
I believe that counselling and Psychotherapy should be completely non-discriminatory and collaborative and I work with a LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse affirmative approach. I have experience working with gender, sex and relationship diversity, trans and questioning people and their families.
I adhere to the BACP’s ethical framework for good practice, attend regular professional supervision and ensure I take part in continuing professional development training. I also have a clear Enhanced DBS Certificate. I am sensitive to issues surrounding BAME communities, race, ethnicity and culture as well as individuals’ religious beliefs.
I offer both short term (solution focused brief therapy) and longer-term individual counselling and psychotherapy sessions for student counsellors. I am also available to work with businesses for EAP provision.
I hope you find all the information you need, please contact me if you have any queries or would like to book an appointment.
My first session
I can offer you a free telephone or online session of 15 minutes so that we can discuss what has brought you to counselling. I will explain how I work and what you can expect from counselling. This is also a chance for you to ask any questions you have of me.
After our assessment, you will hopefully have a sense of who I am as your therapist and if we are good ‘fit’ together.
I will not pressure you to commit to further sessions, and you can feel free to leave the session to think about if you would like to continue our work together.
I can offer concessionary rates if availability allows.
