About me and my therapy practice

A very warm welcome to Ridgeway Restorative Counselling Practice. I'm Gaynor, an integrative psychotherapist based in Newport, South Wales. I work in several different modalities, firstly from a person-centred approach which means I will actively listen to you and any concerns you may want to bring to counselling.

I offer a safe space to explore whatever is making you feel 'stuck', anxious or depressed in a confidential, non-judgemental and empathetic environment.

I also offer Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which is backed by empirical evidence for its efficacy in treating anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, phobias and unhelpful thinking patterns that might be keeping you in a cycle of worry

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is another approach I work with with a focus on self-compassion to move forward from trauma wounds

Life seems to have become increasingly challenging for many people since recent global events which have caused ripple effects in our daily lives, creating issues around bereavement, relationships, finances and emotional well-being to name just a few.

I'm passionate about working with people of all ages and backgrounds to help make sense of your worries and restore equilibrium and hope to your life.

 Sometimes it's easier to confide in someone outside your personal circle who can walk alongside you as we figure this out together. I'm warm and approachable so please feel free to reach out if you think I can help you.

Practice description

I am a qualified, BACP-registered integrative psychotherapist and owner of Ridgeway Restorative Counselling Practice in Newport.

I can help you with:

* Bereavement, including complicated, traumatic and disenfranchised grief

* Anxiety and panic disorders

* OCD and phobias

* Family issues and relationships

* Gender identity

* LGBTQ+

* Kink and poly friendly

* Work related issues

* Health anxiety

* Abuse

* Recovery from narcissistic relationships

* Mood disorders

* Miscarriage, infertility and infant loss

I have a special interest in bereavement support and feel that we live in a 'death-denying' culture and that as a society, we need to open up discussion around death and the subsequent grief that ensues.

I have in-depth experience of grief work from my voluntary work with Cruse Bereavement Care and a bereavement support group I have co-ordinated for a number of years. I understand a significant loss is not something one 'gets over' but is more an unwelcome change we need to process and learn to live with, eventually creating a life with new meaning.

I am equally passionate about gender identity and dysphoria issues and am a strong LGBTQ+ ally. I believe too many of our young people, particularly, have been subjected to unacceptably distressing medical waiting lists.

I tailor my approach to what works for you, using modalities including:

 * Person Centred Therapy (PCT) where I hold a safe, supportive, non-judgemental space for you to talk guaranteeing empathy and confidentiality.

* Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which is a more solution-focussed therapy with a proven track record in challenging and changing negative or unhelpful thinking patterns. This is the gold standard treatment for anxiety, panic attacks, worry cycles, OCD and phobias.

* Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) with a particular focus on Internal Family Systems (IFS) or 'parts' therapy which is often used effectively in inner child work or when we need to dig deeper into your past.

Please reach out for help.

My first session

If you still have questions I'm very happy to offer a free 10 minute telephone consultation to see if we can tailor sessions to meet your individual needs and begin build a beneficial therapeutic relationship.

If you're happy to go ahead I will email through a contract outlining what you can expect from me as a counsellor and my expectations from you as a client as well as a client intake form to be used in cases of emergency only.

My sessions are client-led and focused so we collaborate to decide on an approach or formulation that works for you and how many sessions you might need.

I look forward to hearing from you.
