About me and my therapy practice
Hello there,
I know that starting therapy for the first time (or any time with a new counsellor) is a daunting process and you are looking for a space to talk and think through what has happened/happening to you in a private, confidential space.
I work with all people, and all are welcome to contact me! I particularly enjoy working with people from LGBTA communities, transgender people and men. I tend to be contacted by and enjoy working with sex related issues (including erectile dysfunction), identity, relationships, family estrangement and loneliness.
As a relational integrative counsellor, I focus on the relationship between yourself and I and your relationships more generally. My role is to create an environment for you to know that I am genuine and care about you, so that you can share what is on your mind and know yourself and your situation better. I don’t take any credit for the positive effects counselling has on your life, because I feel you are responsible and do the hard work. Even though I also feel we are a team in the counselling room.
Practice description
More about the type of therapy offered?
I offer humanistic person-centred counselling. Person-centred counselling doesn't follow a strict agenda or necessarily undertake specific procedures or techniques. I will work in a creative way to find the best way of doing therapy with you. You just need to be open to being yourself and to letting me be myself with you. The talking, thinking, being and feeling guide the process. In the first session, we will see if we are a good match to work together. There is not an initial assessment of your medical history or current state of mind.
What you'll get from therapy?
Therapy provides the opportunity for you to find meaning in who you are and your life circumstances. This requires an openness and willingness on your part to explore aspects of your life that may be challenging and uncomfortable. I will stay with you as you walk that (potentially life changing) path and offer their skilled insight into helping you figure out the direction that's best for you.
My first session
What happens now and a first session
After you’ve poked around at my profile, website, blog etc please reach out with a little about yourself. I will reply as soon as I can (I work exclusively and full time in private practice and if I’m not in a session, I literally wait for emails to come through so it never takes long). I’ll send you some more information about my practise and way of working as well as some questions about yourself so I can know you better and how I can support you. Afterwards, we can set up a brief telephone call to help you further know if I’m the right person for you. I like to do this to help you be informed and make a decision about who is the best counsellor for you. Once you’re comfortable and sure you’d like counselling with me, I send all clients a counselling agreement (which outlines the formalities, so everyone is kept safe and secure) and then we begin counselling!
I look forward to hearing from you and starting the process!
All the best,
Lily
