About me and my therapy practice
Hello there,
My name is Lily and I’m glad to explain more about myself and my work as a counsellor. I know that starting counselling for the first time (or any time with a new counsellor) is a daunting process and you hope for the best. For me, even since becoming a professional, it’s never gotten easier.
My practice, Loud Lamb, focuses on the relationship between yourself and me. I will do my very best to create an environment for you to trust that I care about you and am genuine so that you can share what is on your mind and know yourself and your situation better. I don’t take any credit for the positive effects counselling has on your life, because I feel you are responsible and you do the hard work. Even though I also feel we are a team in the counselling room.
A little about me and my background
(It feels strange to talk about myself and I promise therapy is not about me! though I am comfortable to share)… I have a few key moments that are important to me as a person and that made me a counsellor today - I moved abroad almost as soon as I could, aged 18, which turned out as chaotic and disheartening as life before it. I grew up not realising I struggled with anxiety, something I know so many of us relate to. Life settled for me at 22, once I committed myself and applied to University which is the best thing I’ve ever done! Not an easy decision because I have severe dyslexia and didn’t see myself as able (even though, very fortunately, I received intense learning support through various schools until 11) but it turned out I was much more than capable. I started “counselling skills” training during my undergrad ( in Anthropology) and I instantly knew I was going to be a counsellor! I completed my undergrad then enrolled onto a two year MSc/placement and the rest is history! I have no idea where I’d be (I don’t want to think about it) of it weren’t for my formal education, my counsellor and my counselling training!
Anyway, enough about me. We’re here for you!
Practice description
Who do I tend to work with?
I like to work with men and people who are transgender (even though I am delighted to work with women too), because I feel the world in general is particularly harsh to these people.
Why men and people who are transgender?
I grew up around men who, I now understand, faced a lot of toxic masculinity mainly from the Armed Forces and Military Academy. Even though as a child the boys/men in my life were something I feared, as an adult I appreciate the complexities and layers of harshness and pressure men can face. I feel acutely aware of the toils and impacts that this can take on people’s confidence, relationships and intimate life. Today my closest friends and one of my siblings are transmaculine and/or male (so I guess I’m just biased and have come full circle).
More about the type of therapy offered?
I offer humanistic person-centred counselling. Person-centred counselling doesn't follow a strict agenda or necessarily undertake specific procedures or techniques. I will work in a creative way to find the best way of doing therapy with you. You just need to be open to being yourself and to letting me be myself with you. The talking, thinking, being and feeling guide the process. In the first session, we will see if we are a good match to work together. There is not an initial assessment of your medical history or current state of mind.
What you'll get from therapy?
Therapy provides the opportunity for you to find meaning in who you are and your life circumstances. This requires an openness and willingness on your part to explore aspects of your life that may be challenging and uncomfortable. I will stay with you as you walk that (potentially life changing) path and offer their skilled insight into helping you figure out the direction that's best for you.
My first session
What happens now and a first session
After you’ve poked around at my profile, website, blog etc please reach out with a little about yourself. I will reply as soon as I can (I work exclusively and full time in private practice and if I’m not in a session, I literally wait for emails to come through so it never takes long). I’ll send you some more information about my practise and way of working as well as some questions about yourself so I can know you better and how I can support you. Afterwards, we can set up a brief telephone call to help you further know if I’m the right person for you. I like to do this to help you be informed and make a decision about who is the best counsellor for you. Once you’re comfortable and sure you’d like counselling with me, I send all clients a counselling agreement (which outlines the formalities so everyone is kept safe and secure) and then we begin counselling!
I look forward to hearing from you and starting the process!
All the best,
Lily

Afterwards, we can set up a brief telephone call to help you further know if I’m the right person for you. I like to do this to help you be informed and make a decision about who is the best counsellor for you. Once you’re comfortable and sure you’d like counselling with me, I send all clients a counselling agreement (which outlines the formalities so everyone is kept safe and secure) and then we begin counselling!
I look forward to hearing from you and starting the process!
All the best,
Lily
