About me and my therapy practice
I work as a Therapeutic and Trauma Counsellor, just 10minutes from Wantage, Faringdon and A420, to respond to your individual needs in times of challenge or change, or when past or present experiences may cause difficulties or confusion. Session fees are stated for monthly pre-payment, but paying by session is also available. Please click through to my website for more information.
Counselling supports you to work through your emotions and reactions to these challenges, find new meanings and perspectives, and so empower you to find new responses. I provide a therapeutic relationship to ensure you feel seen, accepted and valued, where you come to know and prize your ‘self’, and develop personal and emotional growth. I work with a primarily person-centred counselling approach within an integrative holistic model, which uses insights and techniques from theories such as CBT, developmental theories, neuroscience and creative activities. This also supports attending to clients’ physical, neurobiological and spiritual experiences and resources as well as their emotional being. I have a special interest in trauma, and this informs my practice, sometimes offering the safety of a focused model to support clients who continue to experience the legacy of trauma in their lives. You are your own expert and therefore lead the pace and focus of the work. By seeing and understanding clients as whole people I can respond to your different parts and needs. Please have a look at my website to find out more about how I work.
I have a post-qualification Level 6 Diploma in Trauma Counselling to support clients who continue to experience the legacy of trauma in their lives.
I am originally from the North-East of Scotland but have been settled in South-West Oxfordshire for many years. I came to counselling following a long career in healthcare in which I mainly worked directly with patients and understood the value of creating and maintaining trusting and supportive relationships.
Practice description
Sessions are held in my comfortable counselling room which is only 10 minutes from Wantage, Faringdon and the A420 - discreetly situated in the beautiful village of Stanford in the Vale. There is free onsite parking.
I work with individuals - adults over 18 years. You are welcome to contact me to arrange an initial call to understand if I am the right counsellor for you and your needs, or if it is likely that you would be better supported by a different service or therapist.
I offer a free 20 minute initial call. We will briefly explore what you need and expect from counselling, and create a shared understanding of how we will work together if you choose to proceed. We will then introduce the counselling agreement to support development of our counselling work. This contract captures our agreement on our work together, including session times, frequency and number; fees and cancellation policy; confidentiality; my Ethical Frameworks; contact outside of sessions etc.
In our first session we will complete the counselling agreement and begin our therapeutic work together with a focus on your goals and agenda. We will agree on the number of sessions at the start of therapy but this can be reviewed. We can arrange a fixed number of sessions or work on an ongoing basis. Sessions are 50 minutes long and are usually weekly at the same time on the same day. These may be face-to-face or online. We will agree to review our work together at regular intervals, dependent on your needs, to assess the work and any evolving goals and direction.
I trained at Willows Counselling and Training Centre in Swindon, and have worked on a voluntary basis in counselling agencies.
